what did you do to your 944 today

After my recent rear caliper seizure (lol!) I managed to get around to rebuilding them Friday. This was almost spoilt by the car I borrowed to collect the rebuild kits from OPC, also breaking down and needing recovery!! Anyway, drivers side rear had felt like it was dragging for a while, then locked up altogether. I pumped out the piston as far as I could using the pedal... 20140618_181512 by Hallsy01, on Flickr Compressed air wouldn't move it the rest of the way (we only have 6 bar in our workshop), so I used a grease gun to pump it out fully. The piston had some surface corrosion, but polished up nicely.. 20140619_130641 by Hallsy01, on Flickr The reason it was dragging was due to corrosion of the bore between the lip seal and outer bellows - I have seen this on other calipers before. With the lip seal removed, you could still not push the piston into the bore... 20140619_125942 by Hallsy01, on Flickr So it was cleaned up with wet & dry, then polished, some pitting still remained, but the piston now had suitable clearance. So new bellows and lip seal were fitted... 20140619_131048 by Hallsy01, on Flickr As were new sliders.. 20140619_131325 by Hallsy01, on Flickr Piston was lubricated and pushed back into the bore, with the single pot ATE calipers you are supposed to align them such that the cutout is at 20' one of the caliper edges (ATE manual has a diagram to explain better). In absence of an ATE setting tool, I cut out a 20' triangle... 20140620_155433 by Hallsy01, on Flickr Then caliper was ready to be reassembled, the two halves are held under tension by a pair of springs, which push the two halves down to make contact with the wear plates/sliders. These are a bit awkward to keep in place whilst assembling, so I used a couple of mole grips.. 20140620_155917 by Hallsy01, on Flickr Also lubricated the spring contact area with never-seeze. Worked back and forward a few times, all good. Passenger side had been OK, but I rebuilt it anyway as figured/assumed they were both the same age. Ready to be put back on, I did intend to paint them, but I just wanted to get the car back on the road really, so didn't bother.. 20140620_163150 by Hallsy01, on Flickr Back on the car, bled, and now much better. I reckon the drivers one has been dragging for a while, as there was a lot more brake dust on the inside of the wheel, and also, in traffic/parking, the car just feels like it rolls a lot better. So yesterday, I then gave her a quick wash :) 20140622_145145 by Hallsy01, on Flickr And being the most practical car out of the two, I had no choice but to fill her up with wood, lol!! 20140622_145200 by Hallsy01, on Flickr As I keep telling my other half, she's (the 944 that is) a sporting estate!!

Came back from the 'ring yesterday after 10 days and 7 laps over there with a bunch of mates. The car performed brilliantly and the suspension and brakes have made it 100% better than last time! Any way a couple of photos I've found so far...

Now this is a thread I don't usually contribute to... But today I thought was exceptional, so had to share... What did I do to my 944? Made it tow a 962! Yep, a real one![:)]

Loving the gold Darryl. But maybe the addition of a turbo would be a good idea if you want to keep that pesky red 106 at bay:)

finished off refitting the front panel.. protective headlight rubbers back in place and inter-cooler silicone hoses attached. Also managed to get my drivers headlight light over a couple of mm... can't see any way of moving it via adjustment screws etc. has any one found a way of positioning the headlights centrally within the gap? the bar looks one piece to me but always worth asking if someone has found a way...:) Pete

Fitted new roof trim rubbers on the Turbo and let it stretch it's legs on the local bypass [;)]rubber trims were bloody fiddly ! had a couple of small parking dings removed from the 997, now dent free [:D][:D]

Slightly late report but picked up my car on Saturday, serviced and with the belts and rollers changed. Fan problem just proved to be a cheap fix so well happy. Had some fun on the way home despite the rain ! [:)]

Took red T for a pootle around Rockingham,had a real laugh,TR888s don't look factory fresh anymore [:D]
