what did you do to your 944 today

ORIGINAL: Hallsy I made it home!! God it was hot, and late trains meant i hit 5pm traffic!!! The tempegauge was getting towards the worrying point whilst queuimg in the heat!!
You should have waited until next Friday! You could have joined all of us fellow '44 owners for the meet in Whitechapel ;). That is unless you fancy coming along anyway :). Dave, I like your car muchly, but I also much prefer the stock clocks.

Thanks Chas - me too, just need to decide whether to eBay the white clocks or stash them with all the other bits and bobs now.

Chas - I'd have been up for a few beers this coming friday - but I can't make it :( Eldavo - agreed, much prefer the originals.

So far this weekend I have: - 1. Removed the plastic strips/ moulding under the cills so its ready for rust proofing next weekend. 2. Removed the door panels, sorted out the door clunks, installed new plastic damp barrier and reinstalled the door cards with out the door pockets. 3. Checked the front roll bar and centralised it as it was 2.5cm off set to the drivers side.

I replaced the rear seat as it had a rip in it, replacement was only £25 off ebay. The car broke down so had to wait for nearly 3 hours for the RAC to collect the car

A 4 year journey...IN FOR PAINT If you could recommend a Wind screen fitter....that's the next thing along with the refit [:)]

I know that feeling. Good luck and hope to see it on the road soon

Took the 280K mile 2.7 for its MOT with no preparation, (expected to book for later in the week but had a slot 1 hour later) and it passed without any advisories. Very pleased - any body want to buy it now I have the S2?

Replaced the engine mounts on my S today. What a job - even with a ramp!! The RH upper mount bolts were both very tight, and as I'm sure many of you know - tight for access!! One would not budge and had to be cut off. Lots of lifting, prying and wiggling out, then back in again - as well as trouble getting the new upper bolts lined up with the tapped threads in the new mounts - but it's all done now!! I was hoping on 4-5 hours but it took a bit longer in the end!! Old ones were not obviously leaking, but both were a lot shorter than the new ones, typically the right hand one had sunk somewhat. Car feels better for it, smoother on/off throttle and gear changes now. Glad my Turbo has had them done recently though, lol!!

I've just rust proofed the cills......what a messy job. Next time...if there is a next time I will wear gloves, as trying to get dinotrol (consistancy of treacle) our of your arm hairs is very very (very) painful.

My Turbo has gone for major reconstructive surgery. Jeremy, the previous owner, took the car to a respected Fen-area specialist who charged him for properly repaired sills on both sides. Im not sure what the near side is like, but the off side was bodged with filler and neatly painted. Naming and shaming will follow.

Jim does speak sense [;)]. Anyway, it is time I updated what I have been up to with the 944. Besides washing it I decided to stop putting off a task I had been doing for quite some time. That was fitting the rear decal. Many of you probably recall the rear end of my car having a bare bottom after its little tidy up:

After much patience, measuring, heart in the mouth moments I got the job done. OK it was not quite done to a Pro's standard, but not a bad one nonetheless (C&C welcome :)):

At the same time I figured that I would resort to fixing my awkwardly opening rear hatch. Whilst the rear pin replacement had cured one issue (the boot not opening by itself) it also made the boot far harder to open! And so I set about addressing this issue. Thanks to Eiger (or DeLux/RetroSteve on other forums) he informed me that the locks could be removed from the car with ease and cleaned up in addition to being adjust to near perfection. After putting the decal on I figured that the locks could be given a go. Like a few locks off 944s the drain holes at the base of the pins were caked with grease as were the entire internals of the lock. No wonder life was awkward with these items. After much scraping (removal of the congealed grease), squirting with carb clean and WD40 (the remains were not pleasant (the grease that dripped off that is), this was the final result: Before and after shots:

Whilst the hatch does not pop open by itself (I suspect some further adjustment of the pins may help here or the hatch itself, or even new gas struts!) it is far easier to open and close the lid! The PO must have put the world's supply of grease on previously so as to avoid changing the pins! During this operation I managed to lock myself out of the car with the keys in the boot! Feeling like a right wally many things went through my mind of how to re-enter the car. Somehow I did manage ;). Simultaneouly I removed the rear wiper motor (it has not worked too well for quite some time) and replaced it with a rubber bung for now. Whether I go for ProMax's wiper delete kit or see if I can repair the wiper motor only time will tell. Finally, I put some ICE into the car so as to get the sound system of the 944 to sound a little less pathetic. I shall leave it there as that may ruffle some feathers ;).

Looking good Chas. Did you get yours from OPC, if so, how much did they charge? I need one for my Turbo as it has a poor quality one fitted at the mo. As for the ICE, spill the beans!!?? I was getting excited about a nice new, retro headunit for mine, but the Mrs has convinced me to swap my Becker DTM High Speed from my S. A Becker does look right at home in a 944 imo!! As for me, today I have been cleaning and protecting the interior of my Turbo, and it turned out nicely, even if I do say so myself!! 20140727_195029 by Hallsy01, on Flickr 20140727_195059 by Hallsy01, on Flickr 20140727_195152 by Hallsy01, on Flickr Check out the full size spare rear carpet!!
