what did you do to your 944 today

ORIGINAL: Mersea944 I know this is sad but I cleaned it today only had it two weeks and need a it of loving?
Not sad at all, I've got to stop myself cleaning mine too much as well, heres a question, i took mine to the hand car wash today (the one full of blokes with jet washes) and i wasn't sure if i should turn the lights on to lift the lights so the blokes could jet wash em. Does anyone do this?

I would don't see why not! I did have my old Lux valeted and they wax oils the under side they dint lift the lights so they where covered in black wax :)

I have not saw mine for 2 weeks now so went down to the garage sprayed some Dinitrol LM in the boot wells, fired it up and ran it out of the garge let it warm up and put it back into hibernation, roll on the good weather !

Wired in my Apexi boost controller, just got to put the dash back together now and I can play with it properly. I must do a brief write up of my second oil cooler install too!

Went out to start it this morning only to find that it struggled to open using the key fob, then once I got in, the engine wouldnt turn over either. Turns out that after cleaning it last week I put it back in the garage and forgot to turn on the trickle charger for the battery. Tried charging it again but wasn't even holding a charge now. So I checked the receipt an luckily had a five year guarantee with four months remaing, so down to halfords, they tested it and just swapped it for a new one..... result! saved me £100 Took 2 mins to put back in and all is good again.

Booked it in for belts, rollers, waterpump, front end reseal and cam gasket change. Cam gasket is leaking from about 3 places, not heavily so decided to wait until belts time. During my investigations i found out that the balance belt is about 25% off on one of the shafts, that might explain why i had to replace the oil pickup pipe recently and a couple of fuel rails [&o]

Spent a couple of hours searching for 3 bolt head self tapping screws so that I could attach the top of the cooling fans back onto the radiator of my S2... ...pulling onto the drive late the other night, the car started sounding like a midget with a chainsaw was under the bonnet. Thinking that the bearings on the fan had failed, I was surprised to find the fan leaning back drunkenly towards the belt pulleys. I suspect the three culprits weren't tightened properly after it's belt service & they worked them selves loose. found some, and all is well again...

Bit of an update first, the brakes have been bled and pressure tested all good, as are the fuel lines. [:)]

Faced with a temp of -4 last weekend everything stopped, but with a barmy +2 yesterday it was game on. Time to get to the bottom of an oil leak its had for a while

And before you knew it, all the pulleys had fallen off, not a single one put up a worthwhile fight, they all just slid off like they'd been fitted yesterday.

This revealed the large oil leak was made up of lots of little ones. Camshaft, crankshaft/oil pump, balance shafts, rocker cover, sump, and oil filler/separator pipe all had signs of oil.

If you're going to do a job there's no point in just doing half, so the sump has to come off. ARB

Followed by the steering rack

A quick trip to machine mart for one of these

Went to the garage and fired it up, went to the car wash and washed it down, i normally wash by hand but it is brass monkeys up here !! stuck £20 of BP's finest in and gave her a good run, wound the RPM on when nice and hot, bloody wheel vibration again, i put it down to the Continentals even though i move the car on a regular basis they still seem to flat spot. Dried it off then back in the garage and cover on, the old girl twisted a few heads when pulled up at the pumps, must admit it looked absolutely stunning....................roll on spring [:D]

Looking good Wardy - I wish I had a garage as luxurious and spacious as that - but if I did the missus would never see me, lol!! Hopefully it will soon be a reality though, fingers crossed :)

you lot put me to shame.. I drove mine ... ( first time in 3 months ) was good to be back in it.. even if the two brakes ( n/s ) where stuck! eased them back to free them and she's ok again now.. :)

Rang the bodyshop today to see how the repairs are coming along. apparently the last two parts should have arrived today and it should be back with me this week. [:)]

Killed two birds with one stone by combining a training run with the R30 club night. Popped into town and picked up a head lamp then ran out to the Liverpool Arms (3.5mile, 26 mins), had a J20 and a catch up with Julian and Steve, and then ran home the long way round the Groudle Road for an all in 8.1 miles in 57mins. Nice run, really good tempo. Would have carried on but for the fact it was getting on a bit. Good to catch up with the guys too and chew the fat in front of an open fire. Received the new window switch surround for the driver's door from OPC Chester today as well, will fit soon as. Luckily not very expensive so will be placing an order for the passenger one tomorrow so it doesn't look out of place[:D].

Wardy - if it's not too late for you then I have both balance shafts oil seals spare as the US supplier including duplicates rather than the camshaft seal as advertised :(

A similar situation to Wardy, both balance shafts had brittle O-rings that were leaking away as was the cam tower gasket, main cam tower seal and oil pump seal too. Hopefully I'll be using less oil now, especially as it's about £11 for not even a litre!!!
