what did you do to your 944 today

ORIGINAL: wolfie308 Collected my S.2 from Promax after 12k service, all belts, rollers, seals, new hand brake shoes, replace cracked cam tower cover and some other bits and bobs. Car now running better and smoother than for ages, partly due to very loose balance belt. It's the first time I've used them and was very grateful for the loan of a courtesy car as mine is my only car. It was good to be able to talk to the guy who did the work who is also an S.2 owner. Can't remember the last time I shown the used parts removed. Very happy with the overall service and will definitely use in future. Also not as far away as I'd thought and a pleasant drive too. [;)]
sounds like a great deal. promax is not too far from me either. Could I be cheeky and ask you to pm me with what the work cost ? its practically the same work I need on my S2[;)]

No problem, I'll drop you a line later this morning

Today I removed the p/s pump, cleaned it then stripped it, replaced all the seals, reassembled then filled with fresh fluid with conditioner to keep the new seals happy. As a tip replace the "c" clip on the shaft as the old one bends out of shape when you remove it.

After ordering the new screen from my local OPC on Saturday, today was the perfect day to cut the broken one out. The offending stone chip and crack

Started at the top and worked down both sides

And out she pops

The screen is due in midweek so that's it until I can go through and pick it up.

The car is currently uninsured so that wasn't an option, to be honest I'm not sure it had windscreen cover on the old classic car policy anyway. I'm trying to use man maths to help swallow the cost, as I see it I've already saved twice the cost of the screen by doing my own repairs, so it was free [:D]

Fair enough. My classic policy does cover the screen, when I had it replaced Autoglass came out and it was reassuring that the guy had done quite a few 944's over the years.

Went to Porsche day at the Ace Cafe last night after washing the car, only for it to rain, doh :) Saw a couple of nice 944's. One was a black RuF. I didn't know they did a 944?

It's not a RUF - but it is an interesting car [link]http://flussigmagazine.com/1/post/2014/01/gavin-arnold-builds-a-944btr-like-alois-ruf-wouldve.html[/link] [link=http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/90280]The full story[/link]

Thanks edh. That sent me on a spiral of looking into modifications, S2 engine swaps and other terrible wastes of time :)

Fitted my headlight/relay loom yesterday and collected my delivery from Lindsey Racing today. First up was fitting the silicon hose joiner kit:

I also finally got around to installing an oil catch can I got from Edh a long time ago. Snuggled in behind the passenger side headlight where the aircon dryer had once been many moons ago:

Ran a compression test [:(] Cyl 1 = 170 Cyl 2 = 155 Cyl 3 = 150 Cyl 4 = 170 That was on the back of a 10-15 minute warm up right up to the fans kicking in. I had a peer down the spark holes with a torch and the tops of pistons 1 and 4 looked quite dry whereas the tops of pistons 2 and 3 were quite oily. I've got a little USB endoscope camera which I will stick down for a better look but it doesn't look too clever right now.

Unpacked the rest of my LR order:

My existing fuel line wasn't long enough to connect to the new rail so made up a short joiner piece:

Connected everything up and then jumpered the fuel pump to check for leaks (none) and set the fuel pressure on the adjustable regulator:

MOT later this month and then 2 trackdays at the beginning of May. I also dropped the badge panel off along with the vented one. The vented one is being painted but they're using a spectrum analyser to match the new paint to the existing paint. I thought about the vented panel for a while and have decided to leave the existing ducting in place, any air that flows through the vent will go around the intercooler to the air filter (in theory). Rather than remove the existing badge from the original panel and start making holes in the FG one I've ordered a stick-on Porsche crest the same as used on the GT2 RS from my OPC for the princely sum of £1.66 :)

Taxed mine, it will be getting some fresh oil and a filter, hoovered, washed and waxed, wheels removed and cleaned and weather permitting taken for a good run after winter hibernation, a couple of jobs outstanding, replace passenger side drop glass as it has some marks, replace plastic sill trims, brake fluid flush and gearbox oil check and top up if required (Swepco) i found a couple of litres in the garage.....................result !

Thanks Darryl, fuel rail wasn't cheap but is a very well made item. The original ones just aren't up to the job when you start running bigger injectors and higher pressures and then running them on track. I've always had a slight fuel smell with the original rails but not anymore. Just a shame I got stung for £65 in import duty as well :(

I should probably get it on the list then... Running a 3 bar FPR on mine and a bigger pump. Got to upgrade my injectors too. Handily I have a spare rail at the moment.
