what did you do to your 944 today

For those interested: Mine went back to Augment Automotive last week for a map update.

Unfortunately I don't have a print out of what it produced due to his rollers not reading correctly at the moment so it was more just trying to get the fuelling right and sorting out then boost pressure. On the whole I'm very happy with the new map, it drives so smooth and the power is a bit more aggressive. Unfortunately the injectors are still hindering the performance so will need to be changed in the future. I got spotted by a mate on the way home

and here's a quick video of it in action: http://vid267.photobucket.com/albums/ii301/daz1492/944%20pull%202_zpsl9axieax.mp4

I got fed up securing my airbox with cable ties so I made some new fixings. Small right angle brackets with captive nuts and it works a treat! Interestingly whilst working with it all on the bench it was evident that the weight of the AFM has distorted the shape of the bottom section and the two pieces were not sealing effectively.

Hmm... Head gasket between 2 and 3?
ORIGINAL: Monkeythree Ran a compression test [:(] Cyl 1 = 170 Cyl 2 = 155 Cyl 3 = 150 Cyl 4 = 170 That was on the back of a 10-15 minute warm up right up to the fans kicking in. I had a peer down the spark holes with a torch and the tops of pistons 1 and 4 looked quite dry whereas the tops of pistons 2 and 3 were quite oily. I've got a little USB endoscope camera which I will stick down for a better look but it doesn't look too clever right now.

That's what I was thinking Rob. I was planning to do a top end rebuild anyway so no great shakes. Pretty much every part of this car has been broken so no surprise if the head gasket is also gone. I've picked up a spare head which I'm going to have fully rebuilt and then I can just swap it in. Will be a job for later in the summer when we're back home.

If you need a hand turning spanners when you're back in the UK give me a shout. I'll be just down the road... [:D] I also have a spare cylinder head and similar plan... needs new valve guides, seats recutting and a small amount of welding.

Today I changed the clock bulb which has been bugging me since I got the thing! Used the bulb from a similar type from Halfords and with a slight modifcation put it into the original holder. All for £1.24 and not £6+ for a Porsche bulb [:)]

Put my new to me 944 Lux on the road today after being Sorned since I bought it in Nov. Went for a wee run and seemed fine a bit different drive to my Spyder mind you !![;)] Plan on doing a few shows with it this year.

We might get a deal on the cylinder head rebuilds somewhere if we put them both in together?
Let me know when you're ready to do yours... at the moment it's fairly far down my jobs list (have a load of suspension related stuff to sort) but might be worth having a rebuilt head sit on the shelf for a while if there is a saving.

Today I exceeded myself and attempted a technical proceedure. Oil top-up went ok, I think, so no need for a trip to the garage. Then we went to Tesco and used some vouchers to buy beer. Lots of beer. Couldn't do that in a 911 or a Boxster! [:)]

This is a great thread. This easter weekend I've started to tackle a long to do list of jobs. So far, 1/ Diagnosed headlight washer fault and bought some new parts 2/ Removed headlining and cut out the new material using a template to be fitted tomorrow 3/ Removed wing to diagnose ABS Fault... I'd really urge everyone to check your drainage on the wing. I took my wing off and found the road dirt had clogged the drain hole to such an extent the abs clearly had been sat in water during some downpours. See photo attached. Note the drainage hole here from under the bonnet:

[/img] Then you'll see where it runs down the back of the wing. At the bottom it is supposed to drain through the wing into the sill cover. You should remove the sill cover and clean this properly. It would have saved me an ABS pump i'm sure ;)

4/ While I wait for my new ABS pump i fitted a set of stoneguards I bought from fostersracing here: [link=http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-944-stone-guard-decal-clear-or-black-6-piece-set-stoneguard-924-/301583611736?]stone guards[/link] Absolute doddle to fit. Here are some pics in case its useful for anyone.

Now the car is dry they're virtually invisible!

Great post Austin [;)] Timely reminder for me. Now that I can see what goes on under the wing I'll have to remove both of mine as I know they will be filled with leaves and mud How much work is involved in removing the wing ? any tips

You don't need to remove the wings to clean or inspect. If you take off the sill covers then you can look from underneath. I had the wheel arch liner out to look at my ABS unit and realised the wing had to come off. The wing comes off really easily, two bolt under neath behind the wheel, 3 up the side inline with the firewall and then the ones under the bonnet of course. I think it was 2 attached to the bumper from memory, I'll tell you when i put it back in a few days. I've got the bumper off now doing the headlight washers so its very bare. Glad I did the stone guards at least that is some progress!
