what did you do to your 944 today

MOT passed. O/S front wheel bearing, 2 rear brake pipes from 3 way adapter to flexi pipes. Argued they did not need replaced. Replaced anyway and found fuel pipe ready to give way. Got that done. MOT passed. Car ran like burst arse on return to me, fuel pump noisy. Mmm. Dirt in fuel lines I thought from changing corroded pipe section. Ordered a new fuel filter, jacked up car, mole grips still clamping fuel pipe from where garage installed flexi section! Ping, job done! Garage man heavily abused!!

Nice one, no harm done and a free pair of "Badger Grabbers!"

Overnight stop in Gatwick this eve, and looking for something to occupy the kids this avo we found a soft play centre and jumped in a taxi. Pulled up next to Parr in Crawley, and the Mrs bless her gave me a look and said "you can look at the cars":ROFLMAO:

So I spent a very pleasant 15 mins (best not push it eh) checking out the various GT3 Cups, the GT3RS, the 964RS, the myriad 911s and the lonely front engined 928 hoping someone might pop out for a chat and I could big up the S2, but no luck. Had a sneaky look from a distance into the workshop too, impressive set up.

Dropped the car at the local indie before flying out this morning, carry out a few jobs whilst I'm away.

New battery.....started first time.

Reversed him out of the garage (narrowly missing wifes Smart). Washed him. Tidied the garage and put him back.

Well it's a start.

Replaced the Motronic ECU as i was getting intermittent ignition which was quite spectacular by all accounts from people following me watching the unburnt fuel ignite !

Shakedown tonight and it seems fine, everything put back into place and a hoover then popped back into the garage.

Had a quick scan of the old ECU as i was replacing the Wayne Schofield chip ;-) and nothing looking out of place, i was concentrating on dry joints, but that said it may be a component on one of the boards breaking down as it was fine until warmed up.

Recent oil and filter along with new Swepco in the cog box.

Hi Jim

I note you have put Swepco in your box....I have just ditched it from mine as the LSD was sticking badly effecting the handling, also when we took the oil out there was sign of wear in the oil which had only been in there for a short while and there had been no signs in the old oil.... be warned mate I don't think it's suitable for our cars especially with a LSD.

cheers

Pete

Took the Lux out for the first time in 2 weeks after having the S2 on the road. Tell you what, the Lux is more fun.

Cleaned the engine a bit first time ever poor thing, [link=https://www.flickr.com/photos/48654440@N06/shares/CV1v1U]https://www.flickr.com/ph...4440@N06/shares/CV1v1U[/link]

Pete, mine was changed Swepco for Swepco with no issues in the past ? what do use ? what were the symptoms ?

Today i had to refit one of the turbo boost hoses after a tussle with a Merc 500 V12 as it blew off, i need to grow up !!

That said i passed him on the dual carriageway and he was trying to pull away, hose give up as i was accelerating away in 5th, managed to slip off the road to save any embarresment as the car promptly died

Spent Tuesday avo giving the car a 2 bucket handwash, shampoo'd the interior cloth and driver carpet, nourished the vinyl, cleaned the wheels, dressed the tyres and then last night cleaned all the glass inside and out and treated the exterior with RainEx ahead of the highly anticipated trek through the Liverpool city centre rush hour followed by a stop start run down the M6 this eve for Althorp.

All that effort and it'll look like a mess by the time I get there:ROFLMAO:

Hi Jim

Sorry only just noticed your reply...handling was bad, at times car felt like it was driving over cobblestones at slow speed even in a straight line, would wander on wide fast bends and just felt rough in general. After checking everything else we decided it must be the diff not liking the thicker oil and so changed it back to a normal fully synthetic, can't remember make as my son did it for me. Car is now handling well again...the most worrying thing was the colour of the swepco when removed showing signs of wear, I never had this in the old oil which had been in the box for a long time, iirc swepco was only there for about 1.5k miles?

cheers

Pete

Thanks Pete, Food for thought, mine had been in for a couple of years and was still nice and blue when it came out with no metallic materials showing.

Came back from my hols to find a letter from Mr McNulty - my register sticker has arrived, Woohoo!

I'd better get a photo of it in place to prove it!

btw Paul - the underwear that the sticker was wrapped in appears to be used and has a picture of Pat Butcher on the front?

This week I have taxed it and charged that battery - had planned to do a few jobs when the tax expired, but my other half had a spacial awareness issue with the S2000, so need to do some work on that instead!!

The 944 is still tapping away which is annoying, need to get to the bottom of it really!

Afternoon all...had a handling issue of late which turned out in part to be worn ARB bushes, I think the picture shows this to good effect, all of the bushes were worn.

Decided to replace all bushes with Powerflex and also to replace the drop links with Porsche originals

We also discovered that the drivers side ball joint had failed, I've ordered a ball joint repair kit and hopefully will get this done next weekend, it certainly needs to be fixed by the following weekend as I am exploring Wales starting bank holiday Monday...should be fun....

Pete
