what did you do to your 944 today

Thanks Neil. I'm sure somebody else said before their car handled like a barge with the front ARB triangulation supports fitted. I do have noticeably more roll and movement now at the front and I agree it is far less likely to snap away unexpectedly. I can always notch the struts up a tad to firm it but without losing the body roll and overall front end feel.

Cheers

Stuart

Slightly delayed post but the other weekend drove the car from the body shop where it's had its wings sorted and a front end respray over to Promax for a service and the fitting of an updated intercooler. Car has been away from home for a while now - hopefully will get it back soon but needs to go back to the body shop before that for some finishing off !

Was at the in-laws last Sunday for lunch. Wife and mother in law engrossed in some random gossip regarding somebody I have never heard of. Father in Law says what about a spin out....? We head out to the turf shed. 944 has been laid up for months. Cover off.. Battery hooked up, father in law off for leads, I check the oil water and all that jazz. Jump in ignition on .. 11v not too bad.. Car winds over slow and then barks into life no trouble....!

In a reanctment of 4 or 5 years ago we ease the car out of the shed and warm her slightly, Pass the window and wife is looking at the sky and mother in law is shaking her head - Arragh dont mind them says the father in law. We gingerly go up the road to a local petrol station and give her a small drink and check the tyre pressures. Jaysus this feels good once again.. Its like bumping into an old ex and then getting your wicked way once again. You know its wrong but you are futile to resist..

Car still running sweet but now my time has been robbed due to our 2 small ones. Not that I would ever regret having them but its a busy time. They wont fit in so I have to wait until they are older. Would I consider selling my 944....? I now have her 15 years and there is no way....!!

The memories of good times i had in her come flooding back again and I smile - I miss the old girl and thats a fact.. ! I really must get off my a**e and get her all sorted for its a shame to leave her resting.....!!

I drove my S2 and during today's journey it reached a mileage milestone worth celebrating.

(Above pictures taken whilst on the straight, empty A46 dual carriageway early on a Sunday morning BTW!)

Less than 8 years to do the first 100k miles and over 18.5 years to do the next 100k.

Mini photo-shoot carried out shortly afterwards to celebrate her longevity:

Astonishing to think how many of the major original components very nearly made it with her to this mileage. Only in the last 4000 miles have I replaced the originals of the following - exhaust, head gasket, radiator, front & rear suspension & springs, engine & gearbox mounts - and treat the gearbox to a rebuild. None of these items had actually failed and all would have made it to the 200k mile mark but all were replaced for preventative maintenance reasons only. Admittedly, some of these parts had seen better days but Porsche really did build these cars to last. Of the remaining original parts only the noisy torque tube bearings belie their age and mileage. Oh, and the digital clock, always the digital clock!

That car looks like 60k a credit, 911 & PW covered a 300k ( I think) 944 turbo, still on it'

s original exhaust Along with lots of other bits !

Removed the instrument panel and cleaned off all the old reflective material which actually looked like really dull silver paint and replaced it with tin foil. I also fitted led bulbs so can now see what speed I'm doing in the dark for the first time since I bought the car!

What bulbs did you use? Will they run too hot and cause issues?

Charged battery (Sat eve) then out for a spin down South so I could run the Syd Quirk half (7th place with a new PB in 1:23:18, not too shabby with sporadic training since I binned the Mountain Ultra at 40k couple of months ago - have been stewing about it ever since) and thoroughly enjoyed the drive as always. Quick clean of the seagull mess with some Meguiars and then back into the garage until lord knows when.

Put an order in with Father Christmas for a windbreaker jacket from the Motorsport collection too.

LEDS use less power therefore produce far less heat,

much better option than popping in 3W standard bulbs which will melt the cluster frame

I used the 5 led bulbs like the one below to spread the light around a bit, they shouldn't get as hot as the standard bulbs.
