what did you do to your 944 today

I changed the engine mounts on my Twbo with the car on axle stands following Alasdair's method.

Was relatively straightforward once I'd got a couple of bolts lined up - they took a while of inching the jack supporting the engine up and down and then a friend levering the engine a bit this way and a bit that way.

Yes ditto mate, it's cost me a bomb so far and as you say lots and lots of hidden bits and pieces still to purchase as and when I begin to start the build 🙄

Its funny as before the engine was damaged I had plans on changing all my bushes as there also still original , rebuilding my calipers and wanted to get the car resprayed, but hey this is how life goes.

i also have also got a million and one things on the go. I use to do allot of competition shooting and gunsmithin but that's all stopped since the turbo s engine cracked, then new house and new baby.

Lifes good though , I'll get there 😉
Just take it one step at a time Dan, before you know it you'll be back on the road..no man can stop 'time' .. luckily my days of 'new babies' are long gone, but new grandchildren keep popping up...:) new house is something I need to tackle soon, this will be our last so need to chose wisely, thinking ahead it may be best to get a bungalow, rural, with a pub close by, we shall see. I'm not looking forward to the move, I reckon I can get the house contents packed in a weekend, the workshops may take a week....or two....:)

Thanks mate,

and good luck with the moove, mine was real hard work especially as it fell two days before my wifes due date and I had the house the workshop and the car to moove with the entire engine dismantled all over the floor in good order ,which I then had to wash degrease , oil pack and label to put in boxes! 😩 Never want to have to go through that again.

I shall all be looking through your excellent build post when I do to refresh my brain 😉

One major thing ive promised myself when I finish refurbing this house which I've been doing around work every day now for the last 4 months is buikd myself a pit in the garage to work in the car . But that won't be intime for the engine rebuild unfortunately as the wife want me to build a beuty salon in the garden after the refurb.

never ends for me mate but come winter I want to make the time to rebuild he engine after clearing some nice space in the outbuildings I have in the garden, and build myself a nice large temporary flat clean work bench.😉

Finished changing the engine mounts. What an absolute b***** of a job!! Apparently on a Turbo it's worse, which I can scarcely imagine. I had a mid rise lift and removed the entire crossmember, supporting the engine from below (Alastair's method in the FAQ). I wouldn't contemplate doing it on axle stands or without removing the crossmember. Getting the four bolts between the mounts and the engine was a nightmare. Putting them back in was almost as bad because the holes didn't line up without levering heavy things around. I am sore and covered in cuts and bruises. But the car drives beautifully, lots of harshness and noise has just disappeared. One of the mounts was original and they were both significantly compressed vs the new mounts.

Yes a horrible job - I did one on a turbo (on axle stands, without dropping the crossmember) and regretted it...was hard enough getting the old mount out & the new one was significantly taller! .....Never again!

Took delivery of my Promax chip and an ESD strap, then put it away safely until I have some room in the garage (moved to a new gaff with a big double garage, and it's full of the stuff I managed to fit into a single garage and I still don't have enough room. Go figure).

Dropped it off at the Bodyshop- it's new home until at least late October!

Glass out respray with lots of little bits being attended to.

I reckon it's having a big birthday this year [:D].

Collected my 944S2 from Envy Car Care after a valet/detailing session. Car looks stunning, Tim the detailer is very pleasant with very reasonable charges.

Modified my ebay purchased intercooler to have a bigger inlet tank. In doing the mod I was able to inspect the core closely and it looks pretty good. Quality not an issue imho and for £169 a real bargain. Dyno will tell all in terms of any gains to be had...

Bought some sexy cross drilled front discs for the Turbo via ECP, 968 CS Discs circa £140 with 3 to 4 weeks lead time.

Starting to research that, chances are 964 / 993 turbo will be the same, does the 968 CS have cross drilled rears ?
