what did you do to your 944 today

fitted clear rear indicator lenses, look good but a bit scary smashing the old orange ones out to fit the new ones! makes the back end look a lot more up to date though for something so small.

Collected mine from mechanic friend this evening, finally got 968 castor bushes fitted after having them lie around 18 months[;)] 2 new hand brake cables ( a pig of a job he tells me) Cam belt reajusted after my recent top end rebuilt following cam chain failure. Checked brakes - I find the feel quite dead but think got the wrong choice of pads in (EBC Red stuff) anyone else use them? dont do any track work yet and most of my driving is fast A roads so brakes dont really get hot enough. Had got a new throttle cable from local Porsche dealer (ok 100 miles away but nearest to me) but mechanic buddy says dont fit, wrong end on throttle side! Porsche tell me only one for whole 944 range! anyone had a problem with this? Still got sunroof to fix, gearbox oil to change and boot lock to sort out. oh forgot the drivers window, mate had it down all the time in his garage, couple of weeks and it decided not to go back up, luckily descovered only a couple ofmiles into my home journey of 40 miles, quick U turn and 20 mins later mechanisim in bits, oiled and sliding up and down faster than you can blink. These old cars dont like sitting around not being used do they?

Fixed the rear wiper, had to take the switch apart and reset the little spring and ball bearing[&:] - cost zero [:D] Added to fixing the drivers window for zero and repairing the luggage blind recoil for zero I must be on a roll[;)] Now for the indicator self cancel mechanism, and fit new rear PORSCHE sticker........................any tips? other than make sure its wet with soapy water[:)]

Tried to fathem wireing on window switches to no avail (see Electric windows help) managed to break siezed rear hatch pin, new ones on order. so cannot play on the road till rear hatch secure but thats what its all about!!!!!!

Learned that the car is draining the battery overnight, and that the battery holds a charge. Sadly it's now over to another wallet-busting expert to find the cause. The damn car's already cost it's purchase price (that was a cheap price as well) this year, and it is looking to rise again. [:'(]

I know that feeling, head replacement ended up costing me twice what the car cost (but its a long story)

Picked up some new eccentric bolts for the front suspension so just need to get it booked back in for them to finish the alignment off. Also, replaced the infamous heater clip and in the process set about moving and resecuring some of the maze of wiring behind the glovebox to do with the aftermarket immobiliser. One of the glovebox arms was catching on part of the loom preventing the glovebox opening smoothly, all sorted now!

Now you are just showing off when you say ONE of the glovebox arms. Two arms is a luxury to most of the people on this forum [:D]

I did say it was a minter! I had to glance across to my fully functioning clock to see how long the job was taking too :)

(my girlfriend is looking at me really oddly after I chucked about this comment, then burst out laughing about the clock...I'm such a geek!)

The ealy dash glove boxes are a lot more durable Simon, its the later cars that like to eat glovebox straps [&:] Still good to see one with them both intact though!

Today I took apart the gauge cluster to clean the grounds in the hope that it would help the fuel gauge eventually read full when the tank is full, and I was pleasantly surprised to notice there was a potentiometer for the fuel tank gauge. I therefore took the fuel level sender out of the tank, put it upside down and adjusted the potentiometer until the gauge read full. Looking forward to finding out if it will help.

Finally fixed the bane of my life which was a power steering leak, after replacing hoses and copper washers and still leaking. It turned out to be one of the banjo bolts was distorted where somebody had used Stilsons to undo the bolt. No more carrying a drip tray in the car, brilliant! Whist on a roll I replaced the microswitches for the sunroof so the arms would stop in the locked position. Then replaced the interior light fitting, filled the empty spare fuses slots and opened a beer.
