what did you do to your 944 today

Too right.. Insurance is with AXA Concours - Fully Comp - Windscreen - Breakdown - Social Domestic and Pleasure. 4k miles ! I have my daily driver (a Volvo) with them as well ... Really good crowd Tax is €935 per annum.... If it was an S2 it would be about €1500 per year.. Thats why there are very few 944's here in this country ! Mores the pity I have it paid now so I am just going to enjoy it......! I dont want to think of it (or tell the wife....[:D])

Finally managed to work out how to upload photos ! 45 and still learning !

Today I readjusted the parking brake on the S2, gave the old lady a good deep clean after months of neglect and went for a casual foray on beautiful, hidden country roads. It was soooooo good... No silly AFR dial constantly hooked at your eyes... No silly staring at the speedo all-the-time because of going too fast all-the-time... No wondering how much I will have to fight against the car in the next corner... Either I'm getting old earlier than expected or the S2 is really it - the Dalai Lama of Porsche [:)]

Fitted a new passenger window glass and a wiper scraper / rubber on the Turbo S due to the original being scratched, removed the Promax chips and fitted Wayne Schofield chips took her for a run out, feels smoother and still pulls like a train. Cleaned the 220 and fitted a rear lap belt, another one to fit gave her a run round.......................red hot glorious sunshine up here in Cumbria today [:D]

Drove it tonight for the first time in nearly two months after the clutch disintigrated!!! Turns out my non-starting was down to a knackered speed and refernce sensor. Many thanks to Andy for the loan of his one good sensor [:)]. I just assumed that because they were good when I took it apart they were good when it went back together. A bit of cable and vacuum and boost hose tidying to do under the bonnet still and it is idling high. Probably the TPS playing up again. Alasdair do you have one just in case? All minor stuff. Can't tell you how good it feels to have my baby back though [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)] Need to spend about a day cleaning it though [:(]

Replaced my 15x7 teledials with some 16x7.5 and 16x9 D90s which I bought from Scott. It really improves the look of the car especially in the rear arches. The D90s also allow you to see the calipers better. I painted these last year and put decals on them after seeing pictures of Eldavo's car. I am really pleased with the result - many thanks Scott and Eldavo.

Thought I would post a few pics to explain why the clutch job took so long. As you rarely get the opportunity to get to see so much of the underside of your car I thought I would take the opportunity for a bit of restoration. Hope you like the results.

I got my windscreen re-fitted because the first one creaked too much, the new one seems much better...although I can hear all the other creaks/squeaks now!

I'm glad to hear it's all sorted Rob! I'm looking forward to seeing just how much quicker your Turbo is compared to my Lux [;)]

Ouch for the tax. My tax was £180 per year (possibly a little more now, due this month - sad face, but at least it's not £900 worth of sad face!) My insurance is around £450, 7K miles, only car... So overall I guess I'm not doing too badly...

So, over the weekend I did about 400 miles in the 944 going to Liverpool and back. Today I calculated the fuel consumption from the outward journey (which included traffic jams and some spirited driving on some cheshire country lanes!). Amazingly the car did £34mpg!

I finally managed to get my car through the MOT - 4th time lucky! After having failed again on front brake balance it finally clicked how the calipers worked and having already ready replaced the rubber boots on both cylinders I got out some files and hacked away all the rust from the necessary areas; changed it from a 44% imbalance to 3%! I can now go camping albeit a day late - the perils of learning on the job! Next up: cam and balance belts - eek!

Well not today actually, but at the weekend I stripped down the dashboard, cleaned all the grime from the recesses and edges, fixed some broken brackets and then applied a faux-carbon fibre dash trim. Sounds naff but I'm really pleased with the result and tidies up the car no end. The Gentlemans Racer Project continues! What I really appreciate is that this is a car you can dismantle easily by hand because it was built by hand and not robots. The dash came apart with nothing more than 2 screwdrivers and a 15/16 socket....and a lot of patience.

15/16 don't you mean 24mm? [:D] Good old imperial metric equivalents. Perhaps we should start a thread on who can name them all.

One metric and one Imperial adjustable does them all... (Of course, being an engineer I have to state for the record that ALL adjustables are the work of the Devil...)

Adjustables are all the devils work!!! Use the correct size spanner in the first place and save rounding the nut off in the process!!! Although many an Army apprentice was dispatched to the stores on my behalf asking for imperial adjustables and sky hooks and tartan paint and a long wait and a record stand. And that was even before we hoisted them up on the gantry crane and shoved the grease gun up their arse!!! Of course I wouldn't condone that kind of behaviour these days [;)]

Nope... These days it is broom handle through overall sleeves to be hung up on coat hooks, or overall cuffs each held in strategically spaced vices' on the work-bench. Oh, and hair washed in Swafega before head-first into the sawdust barrel to dry off. Modern apprenticeships just don't offer the same "character building" exercises any more! Re Simon's Brummy screwdriver... I seem to recall if it can't be fixed with an 'ammer, it is an electrical problem. I fell for the long weight... but I was still at school, working as a tyre fitter at weekends until I got the sack for having a Saturday detention...
