what did you do to your 944 today

I fixed my intermittent roof problem and posted about it in the technical section - now to look for a microswitch so I can fix it properly. Tony

Only two tools needed in life ...... WD40 and duct tape If it doesn't move and it should = WD40. If moves and it shouldn't = duct tape

Bagged some 'crab claw' Boxster 17 inch wheels (I know, I know, buggars up the ride etc) for road driving so that I can slap some slicks on the D90's for better track fun. Stage 3 of 'chasing the dragon'. Stage 1. Track day with Konis....hmmm, needs better suspension. Stage 2. Fit Gaz Gold coilovers. Track day....hmmm, tyres giving up after a few laps. Stage 3. Fit slicks.....hmmm, what will be weak link now? (probably the driver followed by the brakes...place your bets here!)

17" shouldn't be a problem. Even going to 18" is fine if the car's properly set up. The issue is that many 944s are in dire need of a proper alignment and changing wheels just exacerbates the problem.

Nothing today but tomorrow im looking forward to repainting the wing mirrors and giving the door handles and wiper arms a blast of satin black at the same time.

In my experience on slicks, brakes and then wheel bearings - possibly related to the heat of the brakes as well as the extra load. you will be much faster though!

I replaced the brake pedal switch (it died last week and I had to improvise with bits from Maplin until I could get a replacement!). Whilst I was down there I squirted some silicone spray along the brake pedal link tube (behind the dash) in an attempt to get rid of the damned squeak it makes and also refitted the handbrake spring (the one that pulls the lever to the floor) as I forgot to connect it when I last adjusted the handbrake cable. Finally I tried to have a go at fitting bits of cruise control but failed at the first hurdle as I think I need a different bracket than the one it came with. This week the car's having a new stainless exhaust fitted too and I think I've tracked down the source of the racket it makes when steering at low speed. If it's right I'll let you all know!! Good day today!

ORIGINAL: madrob6 I finally put the engine back in! Not finished connecting everything back up yet but so relieved to have it back in.
Too early to suggest changing your auto signature?! Well done none the less, and I thought I had a successful day!

Now you mention it I should probably remove the car I sold a few months back as well. It wasn't that much of a successful day, I discovered that the steering universal joint needs replacing as it's seized up and I still have to connect half the engine up. Still it gives me something to do next week.

Heater clip sorted now got cold air ! set about sorting my non working sunroof quite a lot different to the later ones motor is working straight off the battery so i will continue, got shot of a load of added on wiring over the years, fitted some rear belts to the 220. A week or so ago changed the chipset from Promax to some Wayne Schofield jobbies and fitted a new passenger window due to scratches on the previous one along with some new window scraper/rubbers.

Today, well over the last fortnight, I have Cleaned the 944. A lot. Pre wash, wash, clay, wash again and rinse. Polished - srp, two applications on all of car except for bonnet which had 7 and roof had 4 - and waxed with Dodo juice red mist, 3 coats all over. I also polished and waxed all the door, boot, bonnet and sunroof shuts. Used autoglym bumper care on all the black bits, 2 coats all round apart from the spoiler which took 4. Removed front anti roll bar due to broken link, awaiting re-fitment Fitted Hartech lower front wishbone on to nearside. Offside arrives tomorrow. Timing belt, balance belt, front seals, water pump. All pulleys changed. Dizzy cap and arm replaced. Fitted new power steering pump as old one was very noisy. Fitted new DME relay, and 9tuning go faster chip. Tomorrow (hopefully) offside lower wishbone will be fitted, and all new anti roll bar bushes. I also have the anti roll mount strengthening bars ready to go on. And maybe I'll fix that bloody headlight, as I have just fitted osram nightbreakers to the front. The front of the car is now filthy, so I'll wash it when the suspension work is done. Then it's off to have two new sills fitted.

Finnished pasenger side floor and bits. Just sill to go on now. Then paint! really going to have to make that final choice of colour. Blue , grey , standard zermatt, orange green , oh god I just can't decide.

Don't mean to confuse you more, but you forgot Yellow, Pink and The Fastest Colour! Sorry Mate, but good to see you back into it. Alan. P.S. Mahogony?

Go to be zermatt [;)] ! Not enough 944's about in that fine colour. Stuart

A dark metalic blue is still top of the list. As for zermatt well I saw a nice lloking zermat turbo last week on the a90 just south of stirling in the rain and it was making progress shall we say. Anyone we know (Scam) ?????????

Replaced the boot lock grommet, the sunroof hinge screws which were rusty are now new and black and drove it lots [8D]
