Started stripping of the inner wings in prep for engine out and repaint of engine bay.Headlights and mec out.expansion tank, wash bottle and full inlet system out.Thats a really short story for what took most of the day.

Took her to the 'Brooklands Classic Cars Breakfast meet' along with my mates Delorean, saw one other 944 but turns out the 911uk folks were there too, approx 30 of them! Was a great morning out and some great cars there.

Photo's of said speaker pods please. would like to see how you did it and I am sure many others are also interested.Any chance of a wee how to?

Plan was to have a quick test of the ABS sensors, MOT due next week, to see if an instant solution to the ABS light coming on[:D]. Silly me[:'(] CHANGE OF PLAN. Sensor test not right, sensor securing bolts sized, one sheared[>:]...........................so plan B. While wheels off, cleaned, waxed, put back, road test to make sure boost gauge is working, Boooooooooooooooost. Yes it works to max[:D][:D][:D], so car cleaned, all weather cover put on and winter list of jobs to do now includes allsorts of horrible ABS related problems to add to the winter list of electric gremlins to put right. Roll on spring.

Tried fitting some Fuchs to the 924. Success on the rear. Fail on the front. Machine shop here I come with two fuchs for some lathe work to increase the offset! New lower profile tyres needed asap. Job done

Nice Fuchs. shame they don't fit yet Drove mine to work the last two days, wish I didn't need a company car, could drive it every day [8D] I do like the power steering in the beemer though, think I'm getting old! [:D]

Hmmm had a bit of a struggle getting 1983 LUX started today, i think its to do with it getting colder... I think i can hear the pin firing across in the started motor but it not catching on the teeth. I rocked the car about half a metre and the car started up. Could it be my started motor is on its way out? This only happens first thing in the morning, the other times i started it up it was fine. Anyway tomorrow i'm going to finish changing the rear shocks now my replacement top bolts have come through thanks to design911.

Changed 2 bulbs in my instrument binnacle. PARKING LIGHTS now back on full and intermittent PARKING BRAKE now fully functional! Stuart

Hi CarreraRSR Nice Pictures. Nice car. Where did you get the low lift plazzy ramps from?

Changed the rear shocks, only issue is that i had to really chew up the nut on the top bolt so need a replacement... Any suggestions where i should try first? I've got similar size nuts but the threading is not matching.

Local caravan shop. They are levelling ramps but I need them to get trolley jack under the car.

oooh good idea! I normally have to use the car jack on the rear jacking point to lift an inch then I can get the trolley jack under the mid jacking point. Why didn't I think of that?[&:]

I think I might have to find a camping shop too! Well, today I drove 220 miles and spent almost 6 hours at the wheel. Two things have surprised me; 1, it was remarkably comfortable and 2, I used less than half a tank. This car has taken on the role of 'daily driver' admirably well. It's owner is still quite worried about putting so many miles on it though!

Dont worry about the miles Simon, it's well looked after, that's all that matters! They are surprisingly comft on a long jounrey, the only thing that hurts for me is my arms with no power steering, guess you have the same?

More miles = more smiles, seems to me that the only time I really enjoy the car is when I stop worrying about how many miles its doing and just concentrate on using it as Porsche intended... Edd

Eventually got the clutch out. It would have been nice if the manual had mentioned the earth lead connected to the top of the clutch cover housing that you can't see. This provided quite some amusement, eventually twisting the cover allowed me to get to it with a combination of extension bars and a universal joint. Sadly the flywheel speed sensors were totally seized in their housing and will need replacing as they got damaged during removal of the housing. The clutch plate was the original (136,000 miles) and the torsional damper was totally sheared. There is a 3 sector dog in the centre of the plate which still allows drive after the damper has sheared and that's what was allowing the 30 degrees or so of backlash and the clunking when dropping the throttle on tothe overrun. Good news is the gearbox, torque tube and driveshafts all seem fine so at least that's a bonus. I've re-routed some of the engine harness which was wound round the heater hose at the back of the head which has improved access to that area for the reassembly which will start in a couple of weeks as I'm off to Iran for a few days.
