what did you do to your 944 today

ORIGINAL: loc944 Simon, well spotted, that is an E-type, one of Al's many projects.
You know you've been looking at too many pictures of cars when...[:D] Well, this weekend I somehow managed to convince my girlfriend to clean the inside of the 944 while i tried to sort out the wheels. The interior is spotless now!

Don't know Alan, need to buy a new set of bolts. Thinking of getting the centres painted black, still not sure. They fit a turbo so may put them on the Silver Rose. They seem pretty light as well. They are 993 so reasonably valuable. The E type is a series 2 FHC Simon, pretty solid, 4 owners from new, half way through rebuilding the engine but waiting for my new garage to be built first before making any big progress. I am going to get my 911 done next, picked up some nice powdercoated goodies yesterday for it. Will get it on the ramp when my Golf is finally off it after getting a new clutch and flywheel, shocks, 2 front wheel bearings, clean of the EGR and manifold, springs all round, the list goes on. Will be a nice drive when done hopefully and good for another 100,000 miles! Alasdair

The E type as bought, it is an original UK car that went to Belgium 25 years ago. All matching numbers as well, within the last of the Series 2s to be made. Alasdair

wow thats gorgeous . I was taken to a shoot when I was 12 (beater ) in one of the first E Types and it made a huge impression on me .

Thats the same as me! I was about 14 and was taken from Leicester to Corby in a V12 Coupe (not my favourite version) which certainly made an impression, my dads car at the time was a HB Viva!

I was once offered a rusty V12 E Type for £500 [:(] I didn't have £500......mind you at the time I could have also bought a cottage for restoration for £500 !..the year ? 1980

A friend bought 2 cottages in Derbyshire about then for 1500 sorted them into holiday homes sold them for vast profit , bought huge peice of Canada, unseen, mining co then decided it NEEDED his land! Lives in Australia on large ranch now.....money and vision eh!

its all about having the finance to back the vision isn't it [&o] its a rare combination . Wish I had all those opportunities again now I have some money [&o]

I used to be into vw's and got offered loads of split window campers for around £4-£500 mark I wish I had bought bthem all and put them in a shed as even a rotter is now worth £4k.Also a guy used to have a yard near glasgow airport which was full of 356's that he bought to take the engines out of to put in beetles. They all got crushed in the late 80's.!!!!!!!!!!!

its crazy about the vdub campers isn't it .[:(] I know several garage owners that won't even have them on the ramp in case they break in half. I can't see how replacing 97.5 % of anything can be classed as 'sensitive restoration and conservation '? Personaly I'd sooner buy a modern vw camper clone with all the benefits of the past 60 years technology.

5 years ago at the bottom end of town, you could buy a 2 bedroom terrace for 12-15k, now 80-90k, pleased i took the plunge and bought our gaff when i did i was bricking it taking the mortgage on, people renting the aforementioned houses are now paying the same in rent as i do for my mortgage. Mate bought a minty set of 8 x 9 x 16 Fuchs for £500 circa 2000, must be worth 5 times that now, a 964 RS could be had for 20k 4-5 years ago, look at them now [:(]

Its a sticky back plastic product from Ebay USA, about £120. Quite easy to fit if you take your time. Also needs warm weather!

Totted up my business miles for the month today to put the claim in and found that I have covered 2,156 miles in January, my second busiest month! Next month starts with a bang as I am heading up to Shrewsbury tomorrow

The Sport CLassics actually suited the car in my opinion Jim, they weigh less than the forged 16 inch wheels. May give them a try but have my nicely refurbed forged wheels anyway. Just bought a nice set of shiny new centres for them. Got powder coated engine bay parts back for my 911 so that is going to be the first one on the hitlist to get done. Plenty of bodywork to do on it which I am looking forward to, nice to do a bit of welding again. I will try and organise a garage get together in my nicely sorted out and clean garage soon. Hopefully the weather won't be too bad. Alasdair

blimey thats some mileage.! best I've ever managed was 3400 miles in a month when I was surveying Schools in Wiltshire I think my mileage claim was about £1200 that month and needed the signatures of 2x Directors lol.

I used to do about 6,000 miles a month when i was a computer engineer. Covered from Newcastle to Thurso. My last week in the job, I did 1589 miles in 5 days. Wonder why I left? A company car used to last 18 months, I was on very good terms with the garages at the time. Alasdair

Crumbs. I was called a 'loaded git' by my MOT inspector for doing 14,000 miles in a year in my S2. 1500 in 5 days is really caning it Alasdair. Good going, sir! Oli.
