what did you do to your 944 today

Went out for a meal with friends to a country pub I've not been to befor, couldn't find it lowered the window to ask some kids in the village for directions, and the window wouldn't go back up! Must be a nice area as car and bits weren't touched! Wasn't looking forward to half hour drive home, just tried the switch and it worked, so that's today project. Lovely meal though.

ORIGINAL: J4CKO Oh, and made a new Evo 10 driver work harder than he ever expected to, ok it was quicker but not by much and it had two pipes worth of grwy smoke pouring out, really surprised that a humble S2 cab got anywhere near, expected my arse on a plate.
there is surprisingly little between many cars in terms of 0-60 times and perceived speed. The Evo may only have 0.6 of a second advantage . The difference between a 944 turbo and an S2 is minimal on paper in terms of terminal speed and 0-60mph times . Turbo's just feel quicker [;)]

My Saab had circa 250 bhp before this but this feels a bit quicker, think its because its a bit more raw, a lighter and you are closer to the floor, certainly moves when I want it to, think Pistonheads make you think you are buying something feeble if its less than 500 bhp, no doubt the Evo is quicker but expected more of a gap to open up given the plumes of swirling grey smoke, wasnt going to try and ollow him round a damp roundabout.

Datalogged my drive back from the shops, most of the data is gibberish as the ECU isn't properly wired in at present, but the gps logging seems to work. The roundabout on my short journy can be quite clearly seen. Not sure how accurate the accellerometer is in the phone though.

WHAT!!! I have to admire your ambitions James, I'm happy that mine starts and you seem to be building a CV for NASA! I don't understand what you're doing but it looks cool and I am envious

i had to do this if you aint got round to it yet watch out when you pull the switches to bits as there are small springs and ballbearings in there all ive done to mine recently is tape the sunroof shut. ill tackle the drains when its warmer and lighter in the evenings []

Mike. Check your voltmeter on the dash when you operate the switch if it sticks again. When it sticks if the gauge drops slightly when you operate the window then the switch is fine and it is a sticky motor. My drivers side does this occasionally.

Thanks for the replies guys. The drivers window had frozen shut over night you could see it "stressing" when operating. I did strip the switch (caught the springs and ballbearings ok), one set of contacts were slightly burned so I cleaned the contacts and put the spring contacts the opposite way round to use at least one fresh contact. Working fine now. It did seize totally a while ago and I loosened the bolts holding the motor to the mechanism and WD'd them both. The window has moved at twice the speed ever since!

Cleaned it inside out, topped up fluids and fitted a fire extinguisher! Not expecting any fires but if I have one I'll have half a chance of dealing with it! Stuart

Down to in-laws place ...Chat at the table about cars.... Hadnt seen the 944 for 3 months...In to the turfshed ... Cover off - Car really dry as Turf apparentlty takes the moisture out of the atmosphere ..... Battery connected back up.. Levels all checked - Car fired up no probs ... Let it heat up.... Sitting in ......Feck it..[:D] Reverse out to the yard.. Collect father-in-law ... Brakes not siezed or stuck - Up the road tword Glenamaddy turn at the school and back the 10 or so miles ! I had to "sneak about" as the car isnt taxed ... No Garda about so happy days. Father in law loving it... A respectful wave from a lad in a Honda Civic ... Pull up at the house - Wife and Mother in Law both throw their eyes up...... Car back into turf shed - Battery disconnected - Toys put away and cover cback on... Wont be long until the end of March my sweet....[;)]

Thanks a mill Oli .. The 'ol fella is badly missed .. I have his '74 Avenger project to finish and his '82 Astra to get going so busy times ahead [:D] Yeah I cant wait for the end of March .. Caliper refurb - Hartech wishbones and NCT on the cards... [;)]

Had a day off to work on the car Fitted nice new front carpet, new door seals, and new sill finishers then I covered the sill in matte black vinyl to add a bit of protection to scratches from climbing in and out then fitted a stainless finisher on top,...I like it Then I finished the passenger door build, all new bolts and clips arrived from Porsche so I was able to swap out all the old ones ... and to finish a perfect day I fitted my new fog lights and clear indicators.....well happy [:D]

Dismantled, cleaned, lubricated, twiddled the spring and re-fitted the roller blind in the back of my S2 (as per this thread here: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=677126&mpage=1&key=blind&#677126 ) Result: it now retracts as it should, and is free-er and lighter than before. I am pleased! (And the job was simple to do, too.) While re-installing it, I removed the bit of trim behind the sunroof as I noticed the vinyl is peeling off it again. I removed this and re-glued it a few months back, and the glue hasn't held. Here it is as of now, with the carpet sticky spray I'm trying this time visible behind it. Notice the use of Porsche tool C10th35.p3g (red) and C10th35.p3g (blue) to hold the vinyl in place while it dries ....

Fingers crossed it will hold better this time. Oli.

[:D][:D][:D][:D] Actually The National Car Test....An Irish MOT.. You walk into the stark, bare, uninviting waiting area head down, afriad to catch a glance of the gathered crowd .. People sneak glances as they try to put faces to the cars .....The waiting room is like a labour ward with expectant fathers looking through the windows into the test bay.. Some stare at their feet - some talk on their mobiles "No dear the car isnt through yet - I'll give you a ring and let you know! ! ... Some look at their watches "This is taking too long, I wonder if the NCT fella found anything dodgey?" ... Then the dreaded garbled, distorted call over the tannoy "Would the owner of Volvo 03-G-11693 come to the checkout desk?" Here goes.. everyone steals another glance as you shuffle past - your heart rate rises, colour out of your face, you feel every step as you approach the desk ... The inspector hold a brand new yellow cert for 2 years - The ecstacy.. No worries until 2013. Poor Avensis man has been told that the car has failed - He drops to his knees and starts bawling uncontrolably ! Ahh yes the NCT.... I do chat some s**t sometimes ....! Its this time of the morning again... [link=http://ncts.ie/the_test.html]http://ncts.ie/the_test.html[/link] and go into NCT manual and you can trawl through 92 pages You reminded me Oli - must get my luggage blind sorted as well...... Crumbs Donal - sounds like the place where new life is conferred, or a death sentence pronounced! Our MOT's are so much easier; turn up with a fistful of bank notes, make sure you put half of them in the tester's greasy mitt before the test, with a broad smile and a list of the things which "work fine but may not look too pretty, guvn'r" nip 'round the corner to the pub, come back an hour later to be greeted with a computer printed-out certificate and a bill for the test fee. [:D] (Sadly I lost the address of the place that did MOT's by post.) Oli.
