what did you do to your 944 today

Made one good cargo cover out of two broken ones. Thanks to andywatson for the very cheap other half I needed. Did the trick nicely [:)]

Taxed the 220 yesterday, Passat at my matey's garage for a little job so i was going to work in the BMW which promptly disgraced itself with a flat battery this morning ! Shuffled some cars about and got the 220 out of the garage, nivce drive to work and i am using it again tomorrow as it is glorious with sunshine up here in Cumbria at the moment though a bit chilly at night.

Did the 140 mile round trip to get my Pilot Medical renewed with my examiner in Daventry, had a great drive back on the A45 around Northampton, dual-carriageway with regular roundabouts kind of induces you to try each one a bit quicker and deeper.....

Replaced rear hatch strut. Hatch now opens without dropping on head. Quick win to happiness. Mental note made to order some bonnet struts for next quick win. Two cans of Dynax S50 from Bilt and Hamber ordered. One of my sills is showing signs of eating itself from the inside out. [:(] Hoping this stuff will arrest any further munching whilst a fuller enquiry is undertaken.

I get to enjoy that drive to work every day!!! [:)] Gave mine a wash this morning..... Heading up to a village near Edinburgh in it tomorrow morning to attend a funeral.... going to enjoy giving a blast up Beattock... [:)]

Collected F40 OUD from EMC motorsports where they have fitted gaz gold suspension and done the geo/weighting. Really great people. Makes it all the more pleasurable. Kevin showed me the broken front ARB bush carrier that I had no idea was there...the front end had felt good! Told me the car was a good 'un underneath so that was even better news. The drive home was interesting! As I was expecting, regular cruising experience was reduced with a rather jiggly feeling and increased NVH but then I hit a familiar roundabout near home. O........ M....... G......... !!!!! The thing tracked round like a surgeons scalpel. Completely flat and with a precision that was exciting. Can't wait for my next trackday!

having had the S2 for 5 weeks got time to rebuild front ARB - bushes bad,all floflex bushes fitted, new stabiliser brackets, clips and added SAR brackets,a version of very thin ones had been fitted but both snapped.Adjusted, repacked front wheel bearings, fitted front fog protectors, checked, lubed brakesThen took for a test - brilliant, transformed front end, really opened up for first time still pulling strong at 120 plus, very happy.! Oh also dropped gearbox oil and replaced + anti-friction as well. Nick [:D]

Replaced the K & N with a proper airbox! (thanks Elliot) Hot tickover much better. Investigated VERY long travel gear lever travel - found cast link half broken!

Called Elliot!

Worked out (eventually) that th handbrake adjusters on the rear hubs turn in different directions depending on which side of the vehicle you're working on. Much profanity later and got the discs swapped over and am now halfway through my rear brake rebuild.

Sorted gear linkage replacement link and gear knob - thanks Elliot - and discovered that the clutch noise is not! I now think its diff whine that was being amplified / harmonic by the old gear knob. Checked gearbox oil - very low -can get filler plug out but not drain (including chiselling!) so just added some, started dripping from half shaft seal! Next project!

Finishing bleeding the brakes for the second time through, car is now on it's wheels and ready for a quick test drive. This was the last job in a long string of minor jobs as part of the Axle off replace brake and fuel lines. All I have to do now is fit the half roll cage ! Oh.... and fit a larger oil cooler...

Finally managed to get the cylinder head off to inspect the damage, after much struggling with damaged allen head bolts etc......... Have not dismanted the head itself yet, but prognosis is at least 3 bent exhaust valves, although probably all 4 looking at the photo again. Not sure if there is anyone out there who has refubished a 944 head down near Gatwick, but any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. This is the first time I've ventured so deep into an engine on my own - previous experience is decoking a Sierra sometime in the 90's, but have to confess that I am starting to enjoy it ! Don't totally understand why the block is nice and clean, but the cylinder head face seems rusty in patches.

I eventually completed mounting the extra oil cooler, and was pleased to notice it actually worked, as I get a bit more oil pressure at tickover than before, for the same driving manners.

Hi Colin, Best of luck with the floor. I suppose it stops someone else doing it for you!! Enjoyed the waffle but it fell into my cup. Probably due to sitting in my pocket for a few hours. Still enjoyed it though. See you next meet all being well. Cheers, Cameron.
