You are the reason i would never join PCGB John and people like you.. eliteist snobs
.Your domineering attitude , your arrogance in assuming that you speak on behalf of all club members and the way you throw your weight around on the forum you are nothing but a tinpot tyrant.
It was probably you that started the whole thing off with Brett and got him banned .
If you can't force people to pay the PCGB fees then you'll simply make things too difficult for them to use the forum .
I don't want to be anywhere where I am not permitted to hold a view of my own and express it freely and I won't be forced to pay for that priviledge.

Me? OK, your opinion again. But I've only called for fairness in this thread.
You can ask Brett what happened.
I don't understand your other points. You are expressing yourself very freely. I have constanly campaigned to allow non-members to use the forum.
(If you mean someone else then apologies for the misinterpretation, but you follow my post with one that does not say who you are adressing, people will assume you are responding to me. )
sc0tty - you are coming across particularly poorly. I am certain that you probably don't care, but your attitude towards non-members is off-putting. Some of us are genuinely interested in hearing the reasons that it's worth spending our hard-earned to join this club; and yet you seem to be intent on belittling and deriding us for wanting a bit more information before we part with what is a decent quantity of cash (or is at least to some of us, you clearly feel differently - doesn't make you a bigger or better man, just one with different priorities). We're not all "freeloaders" nor "complaining" - just people who are undecided about joining the club. If the advertising were all left to you I'd have made that decision and would no longer be here.
Luckily, some of the members on here are making a much better fist of recommending the club. John from Region 24, poprock and John Sims have all made posts that highlight benefits in an attractive and intelligent way, and have got me thinking that perhaps it might be worth a punt. I will probably hold on until my insurance renewal is up and then see what sort of discount I could get with or without membership, factor in the additional benefits and make a decision. I hope that, in the meantime, I am allowed to hang out here, learning more about the car, and contributing now and again.
As for being a guest and respecting the members, I'd have thought that it would be a given that all forum users should offer respect to all other forum users, and that this should be especially true when disagreeing with one another.

Good grief [8|]
Oli asked a perfectly reasonable question to which various people offered a number of reasonable answers. Whether Oli then thinks its worth his while joining the club or not is entirely his business and not anyone elses. Whatever the decision thats fine and dandy, the world will keep on turning, the club will keep on going and folk will be able to come and go on this forum as they please. A certain amount of keeping things in perspective is needed here I would humbly suggest.
Quite why some people have felt the need to get out their soapboxes to rant and rave and be provocative when a perfectly civilized conversation was going on is just plain daft.

Give us a break peanut, lets just put this post to bed, it's not achieving anything other than you non members trying to wind up the paid up members and enthusiasts. I am sure you would not be so outspoken if you came to our official PCGB events.
And for all you non members, as has been said time and time again, you are guests on this forum, so I would keep quiet if I were you.
Finally, something you non members would not have been interested in, I have spent all morning at the opening of the brand new official porsche sevice centre in Byfleet. With fantastic hospitality, superb complimentary food and drinks, including beer and wine, and a fantastic collection of people and cars, some real classics too, including a 924 CGT, 356s' original 73' carrera RS, carrera 3.2 club sport, 964, 993 RSs', 997 carrera cup race cars etc.
I don't think anyone present there today would have shared the narrow minded views of the non member freeloaders. Maybe you could arrange a non members meeting in the car park of your local halfords? and don't forget to bring your max power and NUTS magazines..
Are you for real or just trying to provoke an argument, you've spent ÂŁ50 or whatever it is and you think it gives you the right to insult all non members.
Enough!
Club Members, don't have a go at the non-members, some of them are here considering whether to join. Having a go at them won't be a great incentive to them.
Non-Members, the forum has been provided by the club, the club members pay for this. You are very welcome here but picking arguements and sniping at those that pay for you to be able to be here is just plain daft. (I could be more explicit, but I'd have to ban myself [
])
We are all here because we enjoy a certain Marque's cars (and tractors!). Let's all enjoy our common interest.

I said PCGB had changed. Seemingly, even a humble 944 owner can be an elitist snob. Result, we have arrived boys.

As a paid up member of this club I have been reading this thread with genuine interest over the past few days. The initial question asked is perfectly reasonable. I have to say I have asked myself the same from the point of view of someone who pays the membership fee. I have read the points made by people on both sides of the 'to pay or not to pay' fence and as a paying member have not found much to object to in the comments/issues raised by non-paying parties. The recent 'What does the Porsche brand mean to you?' thread seemed to confirm to me my feeling that 944 owners lacked certain qualities which have detracted from the general opinion of Porsche owners.
This thread has however changed that to a great extent. I have been disappointed at several of the comments made by my fellow paying members. In fact I suggest that they have done more to damage the reputation of this club than most comments by non-paying members. Scotty - Post #44, a particular one which sticks out.
Scotty again...
QUOTE: "If anyone thinks ÂŁ56 a year is too much to spend on a superb official car club (and I also have 2 young children plus a wife, a dog, a large mortgage and 3 cars to keep on the road, and the loan repayments on my wife's new car as well so don't talk to me about being well off!)"
... at least this gave me a giggle.
If you feel that you can afford the fee and wish to enjoy the potential benefits it brings then pay it. If you don't then... don't. I personally have not managed to make use of any benefits other than the forum itself and the 10% OPC discount. So financially has it been worth it? No it hasn't. Did I resent paying the fee? No I didn't. At times my membership has lapsed but for the most part I have paid up for the past 4 or 5 years. At no point were any rules laid down regarding ones right to post opinions according to membership status. Clearly if I came on here as a guest and slagged the club off then I would be out of line. However I don't think that anyone has actually done this in this thread. Sure, questions have been raised but politely. I never realised that during my periods of non-membership I could have been at risk of being on the recieving end of the sort of comments I have read here if I had in the eyes of the members, stepped out of line.
I think this one should be drawn to a close before true damage is done.

sc0tty - I was considering asking permission to pop along to the next regional meet as I understand you have used the Royal Standard in Beaconsfield - a fine pub not that far from me.
However, after reading your post referring to 'non-member freeloaders', if your attitude is typical, I think I'll give it a miss.

With regards to the issue of non-PCGB members using the forum: it should be considered that club members benefit from the input of non-members. Viewed another way; if you prevent non-members from posting on the forum then the value of the forum for club members would be reduced greatly. I also believe that the forum would die...
Personally Im not convinced that the club can offer me anything: although they can start by offering me the money that they owe me.....

That's no way to talk about Cayennes. [
I have been a member for a number of years and have in the past been quite vocal in the past saying the forum should be open to all - there are many users who would not be here otherwise who provide a valuable benefit for all.
As to what benefits does the club provide I can only speak from my experience.
I am currently too busy to attend local meets but have enjoyed them in the past - especially in the summer - though to be fair you don't have to show a membership card and they are in public places so anyone could go along.
I have been to the porsche factory and Nurburgring on a club trip with several other 944 owners, which was excellent (20 years of the 944).
I have been to many great meets some of which have been through the club, some not, though I think the club meets are usually slightly better organised - there is lots of experience behind them.
The annual events used to provide a great opportunity for a bbq with copious beers around a camp fire with like minded nutters. I have also one some competitions at these events and have some nice trophies and memories. One year winning a fortnum and masons hamper, champagne and a donnington trackday which is worth more than a few years membership admittedly a modicum of skill with scalextrix and a pedal kart were required. Not sure this is as possible currently with the one day events.
The scottish tours were superb though a little undersupported (and possible arranged outside of the club in year 2)
I have been welcomed into the OPC on many club events and had my car on their ramps a few times for a free condition report thanks to the club.
If it wasnt for the club forum we wouldn't all be here, which is one of the few places I still find time to frequent on the web and keeps getting better - odd slagging match aside (and Mr Simms is far from being a dictator)

I have only recently joined the club, I met various people at the NEC in January and found every single one very friendly and helpfull, they even spoke to my wife (you would understand if you met her!!!, only joking[
]).
On the look out for another Porsche, possible a 944, people in the club have been very helpfull pointing me in the right direction.
Just thought I would mention it.........delete this if it is a load of rubbish!.
