Where have the exotic 944 projects gone???

Yes, it's a shame about the bonnet bulge but the rest looks stunning. I'm about to go for the same three-gauge setup under the sterio in my car (boost pressure, oil temp and eventually wideband AFR) so am pleased with the look. Has anyone heard how it runs though?

That look absolutely beautiful! I only ever saw those half built pics before. Wow makes me proud to own a '44 again!

Two questions where do you get that spoiler from and how much!!! I WANT ONE!

Ditto! I like the way it echos the lines of the under tray.

I agree that the deformed bonnet looks a bit pants, but only a bit. You could put up with it.

I rather like the side decal and think an orange "Turbo" version with matching orange wheels (9" all round [;)]) might not look too chav on Beaky. I've not mentioned this to Belinda yet. [:-]

Re. the gauges in the centre console. A complete waste of time. My AFR gauge lives there:-

....and, with both hands on the wheel, you can't see it. It is fine if you have an in flight engineer checking the readings but little or no use to the driver.

John, how long has your boost gauge been mounted like that?

I ask as I've nearly finished doing exactly the same mod (carbon and all!) to fit the oil temp gauge and can't remember seeing it before.

Spookily I also have the carbon fibre ash tray delete, but suspect I may have copied you on that one... [:)]

Since the CF ash tray delete so it was obviously such a clean mod that you didn't notice it . BTW it is the AFR gauge not the boost gauge. [:-] The boost gauge is on the windscreen pillar 'cos you can't see it down there.

Had a go with the orange wheels and decals. Belinda spotted it and went "Yuck!" (I think that's what she said) so we won't be going that route then.

Well that must have been where I got the idea from then [:)] Thought it was too cunning to be original!

I didn't think I'd like the orange based on the thumbnail, but the full size pic is nice, add an orange roll cage and seat backs and it'd be perfect.

I agree it does need the full GT3R treatment. Orange would look particularly unpleasant with a beige interior. []

s_zero_interior.jpg

black carerra's with polished lip and silver graphics?? or replace/re-colour the interior add a black or polished lip to the wheels? i reckon you could go a bit racy, rs door cards, painted seat backs, remove the dash plastic and get it professionally sprayed in orange, coloured dials with chrome bezels.. what's not to love?

Whilst mine is not that exotic (though IIRC it was until now the most powerfull at 18PSI) it is still in devlopment, Since you passengered in it Ben, Fens intercooler and hard pipe (one so far) made more difference than I expected, the second hard pipe will be going in soon as my car developed the chirp sound of an Audi Quatro rally car passing through Kielder forest - I guess compressor surge and wonder if I have some dirt in the Dump valve - the second HP has a large Tial DV on it.
I will also order the piggyback and a wideband soon. Currently very busy though, MOT has run out on the 944 and havent had time at home to get it booked in.

Hmmmm interesting. Let us now how it goes with the other hardpipe as I keep looking at my tiny, shrunken, rubber 1.5" intercooler pipes next to my slightly large turbocharger and can't help but think 'restriction'

Don't think mounting oil temp gauge down there is such a good idea. Well not if you track the car. Oil temp is one of the most important things to have clear sight of on the track and you won't see it down there before it may be too late.
Does anyone know more info on that 9ff car? Looks like they've spun the motor on it's axis somewhat to increase room to mount the turbos? I would have liked a better solution than that ugly hood bulge though...
Oh and Paul, that is definitely one area you can improve on. Just a matter of time and what's that other stuff,...oh yes money.[:D]

Hi Patrick, I agree it probably isn't the most logical place to put it, I'm really hoping to only need it whilst we're working out the best way to sort the oil cooling design and placement, but I may move it later if it becomes a pain down there.
Best regards,
Peter

I'm wondering who is going to be the first to fit a multi function digital dash?

Years ago such things were very exotic but now they cost little more than a handful of good quality gauges.

It is a shame the standard dash is so nice or, I am sure, it would have happened ages ago.

You can't beat good old fashioned analogue clock gauges. There is nothing like a dynamic analogue gauge with a moving needle - so much better than a digitally graphically produced bar or gauge. Maybe for race cars where you are looking to save every ounce of weight.

On the basis that my car is a road car that I want to have reasonaby good on-track handling, I still want the car and the interior to look standard-ish, therefore i'm not up for the windscreen pillar mounted gauges. I can live with the un-ergonomic placement of the gauges under the stereo.I don't think I ever intend to get as extreme as Patrick with my on-track antics. I'm just after a good fun day out and to improve my driving skills.

John,

You only need to go on Rennlist mate. There are quite a few Stack digital dashboards out in the US of A.

As for my car well decided to do a bit more head work and have a Speedforce Racing Inlet manifold made with extra long runners. I don't agree with the short runner arrangement for the road or even small twisty tracks. You lose too much torque. Hence Turbo Tim is making me one specially to spec. I am also getting a camshaft custom ground to my own specs (lets see if it works) and maybe solid lifters too if I can come to a deal with Dave McGrath (evil944t on Rennlist) He is supplying me the dry sump kit too this winter but thats for next years notes.
On the ancillary side will also be going for the Vitesse wasted spark ignition after courting with the idea of coil on plug like the Cayanne. And a new electronic boost controller Hope to have the car ready within the next few weeks and then off to the rollers of truth!!!
Oh Paul, a bit pedantic of me but it is now a 3.1 litre.........lets see if that 100cc makes any difference
Cheers Guys
Tom

Sounds exceptionally cool. I wondering if the next group buy will not be radiators but Hewland or Quaif gearboxes [;)]

It was the Stack dash I was thinking about - tach's need to be analogue the rest can be readily assimilated from numbers. The advantage of the digital dash is it can be programmed to throw up any readings that run outside user set parameters .'. as soon as you oil temp rises above a temperature you decide you get an alert - you don't even need to look at a gauge to see if it is changing.

I had a Stack tach in the Westy it was a fabulous piece of kit.
