It is a US spec S2. There are quite a lot US spec 944 models here in Finland (including my own 951). Most of them have been imported years ago by Finns who lived & worked for a while in the USA. Since Finland have only world 3rd highest car taxation, it was natural to bring a car with you without car tax, if you were over a year outside Finland. My father worked over a year for British Midland Airways during the late '70's. He planned to bring a Porsche 924 to Finland. For some reason my mom was not so keen of this idea.... Here's a DC-9 with perioid correct painting. Finnair rented several of these to BMA. My dad run maintenance department responsible of DC-9 aircraft. He was stationed first in Belfast, later in Liverpool, which became almost a second hometown for me as well []
Story behind this Satin Black S2 is the following. It was stolen last spring and vanished.So insurance company paid for it's owner. When police found the car, it went to a place where all insurance companies property is located. From there you can buy cars as an auction based system. My friend won the auction and put this S2 into parts. It was driveable, but condition of that S2 was quite poor, so no sense to save it. 951 at the same yard was imported by a Finn from Saudi-Arabia. It was also a complete car when my friend bought it. It has somekind of engine failure, nothing big. But it sat several years outside and friend started to sell parts from it. 951 when i first time saw it spring 2009. Son's 951 have quite a lot parts taken from this 951, including the AC system, heat shields, etc.
We once calculated son's project car include parts from quite many 944's. The represent several nations as well. Car was originally sold in Switzerland. Then bought by a Swede, who imported it to Sweden. A Finn bought it 2005 and imported it to Finland. Parts have come from various 944 & 968 models located in: -England -Scotland (Thanks Alasdair) -Sweden -Switzerland -Finland -USA -Saudi-Arabia -Estonia -Germany -Austria -Denmark -Netherlands -Belgium So, son's 951 will truly be quite international 951.It's good to have friends all over the world, from who you can buy used parts. Seems to me only original part of this 951 is just the body shell.... Let's see how arctic digging continue today. Yesterday it was only -3C, now -17C [:'(]

It was so warm, just -16C, so we decided to continue some arctic digging. Went to friends yard with my son and another friend Juha, who owns a nice 968. Empty shell is quite light. I suppose two man can easily turn it over. I was just there pretending to lift, but i suppose it was my son & Juha who actually did the job []

Thanks for that Olli. It explains why your English is so much better than our Finnish! Your sons 951 really will be a bitza - in the best possible way! We're all complaining that its about 0 degrees here.
Is it me, or does that conjure up images of wild animals picking over the long-dead and mostly-devoured carcass of some large ruminant, to see whether there are any scraps of meat that can yet be eaten? 'Tis un undignified end to a 944, for sure. Can't you give it a decent burial, at least? (And don't get me started on -16degC being 'warm'. Oli, don't worry, S2's body will continue it's life in some other form. When all usable parts have been blocked off, it will go to this company http://www.kuusakoski.com/ Perhaps steel is used to build another car, who knows. Warming of climate has caused interesting changes also to Nordic countries. Now we usually have good warm summers and proper winters as well with snow and some -Celsius degrees.

Have tried to locate few meters a correct type universal brake line pipe, with greenish plastic (PVC ?) on it. Beside Porsche, several other marques used it. Now Porsche have moved to black coated pipes. Need pipes for ABS pump. Perhaps i just have to go to paint shop with old pipe and ask them mix some paint for me.....
Got last week a LOT of used 944 parts. Luckily some of the items were the ones we need for son's project. For example car's original streering rack was sold. We already had a replacement unit, but it was taken from an old ET car and it was also equipped with older style banjo bults etc. Now we have a correct rack, which was taken from 1990 S2. Just have to put it to the parts, clean it, send the body to re yellow passivated and put it back together with new seals etc. Should be as good as new. We will also have a new style non-leaking hose system for this rack []
Since we are planning to get 951 rolling again in the near future we had to pay some attention to torque tube. Bearings felt more or less OK, but since torque tube is off the 951 and will get new paint on in, it would be criminal to leave old bearings in it. Removing saft & bearings is not a big deal, but we didn't want to spend too much time removing them. We loaded the tube to my car and drove to friends workshop. He have all necessary tools to accomplish this task in few minutes. Our tube with some others.Friend was just doing the same procedure to a 924S

Actually it hasn't been polished. At home it is quite messy to media blast the tube clean from all the rust it has (i have never seen a rust free 944 torque tube). So we gave it a fast 10 minutes treatment using a normal electric drill added with these:There is a guy who wasted X hours of his life to polish a torque tube? Interesting
