Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Reports such as this make an ideal Birthday present[:)]
ORIGINAL: daro911
ORIGINAL: homerdog Great article in this month's EVO, called Future Icons. The Spyder was included in a list of 44 cars based on "market knowledge" and driver appeal. They then picked their ten favourites and Richard Meaden (who owns a 964 RS) drove them all. This is what he had to say about the Spyder: Last to be driven... is the sublime Porsche Boxster Spyder. Here was a lightweight Porsche that proved the... RS models were not the only way to achieve greatness. In fact, in purely dynamic terms the Spyder is a much more amenable road car than any recent RS 911. Every element of this car is so perfectly wrought, so cohesive and consistent, it's as near to flawless as you're ever likely to get. This, then, is a Porsche for the absolute purist... you can't help but be utterly seduced. Which (of the ten) would I choose? It's the beautifully wrought Boxster that already has me monitoring the classifieds. So, great praise indeed; it's well worth buying the mag to read the whole article and to see the great cars it was up against. The only thing wrong with the car they tested, was that it was the wrong colour and had the wrong wheels!
I need to get a copy of this to keep in the car .... Very much underlines what at least 6 PEC instructors have said to me over the years since launch[;)]

Fitted the GT2 brake ducts this afternoon. Nice easy job, here are some pics of the before and after:- Old type compared to new one: Old one on car: New one fitted: From underneath, plenty of clearance :)

ORIGINAL: daro911 Some food for thought between cake and jelly[:D]   This was the state of play on Pistonheads & OPC's 1 year ago when this thread kicked off ......   The lowest amount of Spyders seen at OPC during this period was one silver car at OPC Wilmslow with a strange spec of  PCCB's, sports seats and extra alcantara a car Spyderman Rob K took a look at and wasn't impressed by the condition at all if my memory is right[:D]

It's great that this corner of the PCGB has been going a year and is now self-sustaining through a healthy number of Spyder & R owners[:)] Good point daro about how the market has been pretty stable over a year. The prices back then attached to cars with lower mileage than now, as RobK says, some shrewd buyers/sellers might've got away with a few thousand miles at zero cost! Homerdog, thanks for posting. I think the Spyder scares off those who can't put up with a manual roof but for those who buy one, I think the car exceeds expectations because a short test drive with a seller/dealer can only reveal so much. For R. Meaden to go for a blast (albeit more than a test drive) and put it up there with other great Porsches he's owned/driven, says it all[:)]

ORIGINAL: spyderwhite The current modifications I have on my car are: Remus Ti2 Race Exhaust: IPD 'Competition' 82mm Plenum: With the GT3 Throttle Body. Evolution Motorsport V-Flow Intake (+Synthmax filter): FabSpeed Sports Headers (200Cell): Softronic Remap: these are all the mods and come to in excess of £6k so it wants to be at least 360 crank hp
it only ran 345hp wheres the standard spyder rang 315hp so £6k for an extra 15hp not that good really!doesnt say if this whp or crank hp?if wheel hp then the spyder must be producing at least 330 crank hp and the tuned caymanR 370 crank hp

on a CR Porsche already remapped the R to 330Bhp, so yes only a small gain. But it would be a 29 BHP gain for the Spyder. then imo just a Manafold might give you that gain on it own on a R, which is what I am going to do. You don't have to spend 6k,, Bob has a Nice Ti exhaust system which is a large chunk of that money at 2k.

Bottom line how much will it cost to get a Spyder to the extra 29 horses then

It should also be noted that tyres can interfere with BHP figures on a rolling road. A slick can cost you BHP on the dyno as it gets very sticky, yet a real crap tyre will show more HP

what no one has on here or planet 9 is that 320hp Porsche quotes for the 987.2 cs is at the crank so 300hp is what you expect at the rear wheels.normally 8- 10% is lost through the manual drive train and autos a lot worse.but is pdk more efficient than normal auto boxes?so with the spyder it also should have ran circa 300 rwhp so is actually running a lot higher than porsches stated 320hp!

Wow the front GT2 brake ducts looks awesome for track! Just what in looking for! Price and a part number would be great :)

Great work Professor!

Thanks Andy :) also have you thought about removing the alloy backing plates from the front disc's? I think they hold in the heat rather then airflow?
