Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

I reckon either the Solihull car will be sold next, to Dyllan with it's Xenon's[;)] Or the Towester car sold to John & Brian as a joint venture, stockpiling a red one for future investment[8D]

Thought I would post a pic of what one should look like before we all forget ;-) Note the new black wheel nuts ;-)

I just wonder that you won't get more pleasure out of that than a 430 you'd be scared to use/ leave anywhere? Just a thought...

Who nicked you number plate! Any chance of a close up shot of the wheel nuts this isn't doing it for me[;)]

yes keeping it for another year, Just spending circa 3k on it when I did 1k miles the last 12 months is annoying. I am half thinking taking it out the OPC network, no warranty and get my Local Porsche indy to do a service for about £300. I would never find another car in this spec looking at what's for sale, if people could spec no humps they would do !!! If any single car will be a Classic and command the future values imo I own it ;-) that's what stops me selling it to be truthfull, I could never come back and buy one without any of the Spyder bits. It's a once in a life time buy in this spec now, you have more chance finding a GT3 RS4.0 or a 73 RS of which 2 or 3 are for sale if you have the money. Porsche press car and the car spec which is in all the nice hard back books, never to be found again imo. If I put it up for sale it would no doubt leave the UK to some collection. when you look at piston heads, all you read about is, AC fail, seats failing, battery failing , electrics failing, PCM faulty etc etc As my car has none of that even to go wrong/replace is it worth having a £1.1k service and a 1k warranty on it, I am not so sure. I need oil change £30 (got it at Halfords on the last mega deal) filter and a set of plugs ffs. As for the battery, I cannot wait to swap the Moll POS out to a nice light weight race unit.

If you feel that strongly about your cars future classic status and who says you are wrong then don't drop out of OPC network for servicing to end up penny wise pound foolish[&o] Any classic car with a full dealer service history would be another rare and priceless add on to the ultimate one off spec you believe to have when you finally sell for a six figure sum[;)][:D] For 1000 miles a year do what I do and forget the warranty and underwrite any repairs at an Indy from your own sinking fund In past 16 years I have done exactly that and not spent a single pound on repairs and my previous Boxster S was 6 years old when sold for the Spyder but under 15k miles[:D]

ORIGINAL: Andrew Killington Hi As a long time Porsche owner through Boxster,GT3, RS and Spyder I moved to the dark side, a F430 Spider. I would say that if nothing goes wrong and you are talking about consumables eg pads discs etc then the comparison is fair. Once you move out of wear and tear items the costs ratchet up eg manifolds are a weak point on 430's and are circa 7K from a dealer, I had a sensor fail on one of the front wheels that was 1K. major service circa is circa 2.5K, clutch circa 2.5K Also, the warranty on cars over a couple of years old only covers engine and gearbox so you rely on goodwill outside of that (I paid 1.5K towards new manifolds). So I would say when all is going well the costs are similar, but when you need something doing outside of warranty the F430 would be much more expensive; however you are talking about a much more expensive car when new. Happy to contribute more Andrew
Good to hear from you Andrew, once a Spyderman, always a Spyderman and you are still included in the member's list [;)] Do you drive your Ferrari less than you did your Porsche or about the same?

So what is a Porsche Classic? Food for thought. Take a look at the following Photos of this years Classics at the Castle - Hedingham:- http://www.sportscardigest.com/porsche-classics-at-the-castle-2013-report-and-photos/ Not a Spyder in site but come twenty odd years the Spyder could well make an appearance in the line up[;)]

If there is no 981 Spyder then I think we can safely suggest circa 2023 for jnr classic status
