Cayman GT4: Where are we up to now?

ORIGINAL: MrDemon I call the whole German info a fake which was posted today.
Best to never believe what you read on forums As light relief, a German guy has dropped a 991 X51 engine into his Cayman and has just got it running. Still a long way to go but here is a video.. https://www.youtube.com/v/DLRx32vTmnY%26amp;hl=de

ORIGINAL: MrDemon there is no price yet. The bad news is the Press release might not have the full specs on the car, it's just a 4th Feb press release that the cars real. Porsche UK will still NOT take a deposit on a GT4.
You moving the goalposts again mrD ! I see you have gone quiet on the gt4 piston heads forum! So bets are now on full press release info 3 March Geneva or 12 March Chicago
press release day is 4th Feb, who knows what they will tell us, might be every thing and we can order the car 5th Feb on the Porsche site. My new years res was NOT to post on PH ;-) def the full show for the 991RS and GT4 is at Geneva and that might be the 1st time we see the car in real life. but 4th Feb is a press release day or a day where some thing is going to happen world wide. be annoying to have to wait for the 4th March for the full details as that means NO cars for summer if we cannot order till after that. deposits will have to be in 5th Feb to keep your slot and the loi will go out the window that date for hard cash. good news is a lot of people will not pay when it's manual only, so the right people should end up with the cars unlike GT3 sales where a big % were sold straight on for £££

That rather reminds me of this video Ralph [about 2mins in if you don't have much time to spare]: https://grrc.goodwood.com/race/historic/28-5-litre-fiat-s76-runs-first-time-100-years Awesome...! Jeff

Manual only, 3.8 litre 380PS. Allegedly its already on the dealer configurator in Germany - albeit with no prices or even photos! Chris.

Latest photo's seen on forums are pretty close to the final article, except wheels. The 3.8L was judged to make the GT4 too fast relative to the GT3 so the engine will be 3.4L., 380 bhp. Basic price is £65k, manual only. Options are few and include Sports Chrono, PCCB, Club Sport interior and then things like A/C., Sat-Nav. All information direct from OPC (UK), Wednesday, does not wish to be named. Not a bad state of affairs but I feel that this leaves plenty of head-room for an RS version. Ian

OPC know shit, my OPC said 2l turbo still. And one sales guy just said the car does not exist, OPC will be last to know. They don,t want to be named because it's so wrong it's funny.

We will indeed Ian, but if your OPC is predicting a 3.4L engine he's barking up the wrong tree for starters [a detuned 380PS 3.8L is a bit of a no-brainer].....which doesn't bode well for his other predictions either. Jeff

Boxster with 3.8L 430hp engine My German 'friend' has got his 3.8L 991 GTS engine fully installed yesterday. http://www.youtube.com/v/p9kkcNeJjLk&hl=de Still got to optimise the mapping though

Pretty average 'wide of the mark' OPC type response. I overheard one telling a customer th other day how dangerous Adblue was!. Far better to tell the truth or say you do not know.

So, who will typically buying the GT4 do we think? Will it be 981/987 buyers, for whom it's looking like it'll be quite a hike in price. Or will it be GT3 type buyers, for whom it presents an absolute bargain. [And I'm not trying to insult anyone's pocket. I couldn't afford one. Was just thinking, out of many who would like to buy one, who will actually buy one. I'm sure they'll be all sold, but to who?]

I am buying one ;-) you have a few 991 GT3 owners with names down I think 997.1 GT3 owners could cash in 15k profit on their cars as I think they are at the top of the price now and get into a new car for the same money. it's quite a small market esp if it manual only hence why only 100 cars for 2015 and the same only 75 Spyders for 2015.

Although I must declare an interest in purchasing a GT4 6, shelling out another £40k+ over my 987.2 requires a lot of thought, so I'm going to wait to see the full spec and price. And I still have a hankering for a "proper" air-cooled 911 - an SC or 3.2 Carerra - to complement my modern Porsche, so the money could well be better spent there. I have to agree with MrD's comment that there are probably quite a few GT3 owners out there looking for a slightly different take on a track-oriented Porsche [one with a manual transmission?]. Whoever's buying, I can't see many GT4s hanging around in PC showrooms. Jeff

Hi, I have a deposit down, but like many, wish to see the final spec before committing further and selling my 997.1 GT3. So if its a proper mid engined GT car, then its a yes, but if its just like the Cayman R in 987 guise, then probably not. Sorry, edited to say, thats not to say the Cayman R is no good, its just I want a fully speced "mid engined GT3", not a parts bin Cayman model extension. Regards Charlie

Unashamedly filched from a P-9 post referenced by Ralph earlier [Post #490]: For non-German speakers, finally some details on what was on the fabled options list from PFF: PASM & PTV standard. Also Bixenon headlamps, that giant wing, Sport Design side mirror, Sport Exhaust and special 20” wheels in platinum satin. Don’t know how credible the source is. PASM is doubtful I would have thought [a bespoke chassis set-up is more likely] and I'm sure that the exhaust is more likely to be custom, as it was on the CR, although the standard SE would be cheaper to implement. PTV is a certainty as it includes the LSD, essential for a track-oriented car. Jeff
