Cayman GT4: Where are we up to now?

ORIGINAL: ralphmusic I was asked for a deposit in early June as they said a LOI by email might get lost - I though the last bit was a good response.
what if they lose the 3k as they cannot assign it to a car ? they have prob spent your money on the coffee machine !!!

PH? Must be true.............................................. [8D]
ORIGINAL: chrisH Looks like you guys better get on and place your deposits now then as some OPCs are taking £3k as of today, according to thread on PH.

15 days..... :) I cannot see anything leaking so soon to the date now wonder if the mags have the info to release on the 4th ALso most embargo dates see a flood of stuff on that day. Still hoping for the full release and not just a "this cars real " wait till Geneva launch !!! was hoping to get the car for a zandvoort summer trip

After the Cayman GTS debacle where a US dealer realeased some information from a presentation, Porsche has obviously tightened up its security. Still, I'm surprised that nothing official has been leaked to date and that there hasn't been a YouTube on-track video of the GT4 at the 'Ring. Whatever, I'm sure that we'll know more in a couple of weeks. Jeff

If 981 owners don't want to fork out for a GT4... there are tuning options beyond the level of improvements that MrD has applied Power dyno runs from a German tuned 3.4L Boxster with custom mapping, M&M exhaust system, and Plenum and throttle upgrade. It also has full KW Clubsport suspension and 350mm Brembo discs and GT3 callipers.

And below is a German 3.4L Cayman that has had a full cage installed.

Looks cosy aside from the scaffolding.

That looks more costly than a factory fresh GT4. Depreciation would be seriously higher and no chance of a Porsche warranty [:D][:D]

no one has cracked the 981 CPU as far as I know !! so that mans a piggy back which can lose all the safety features and is never that great imo. as for sus mods the only ones I would go for are the TCP ones, In a few levels using the JRZ shocks here are stages 1 to 4 looks good to me http://www.tpcracing.com/products.html then find the 981 this is stage 4

so he spent $43k on top of his car and only ended up with a set of sports springs on the sports and handling side of things lol each to their own and all that, but all show and no go ;-(

That's the pleasure & satisfaction of being well off-I don't imagine it will end up being worth anymore than standard a few years down the Lake District roads-reminder to self-must remember to look out for it when we have our all family holiday in Bowness this Easter -( that's where we'd rather spend the money)[:)]

he is a nice guy, I have spoken to him, and the car looks great. just not how many people would choose to spend $43k on top of the car. but it's great to see that some people just do it. As for Bowness, why even visit that place if you are going to the lakes ? lol tastless place these days full of tacky shops and buses full of foreigners ! so yes I would not pay $43k on those car mods and like wise would not spend even more than a tenner going to Bowness !! lol And I love the lakes , go every year. always a case of we all like what we like and will spend the money on what we like ;-)

David, A timely edit as it looked rather personal:-after several years in Troutbeck Grisedale,& other remote locations ,our children suggested somewhere where they can out for an evening's entertainment.drink, meal etc without driving , leaving us to babysit the grandchildren & there are not many 9/10 person nice properties in that situation. As we usually go out somewhere different each day, that is why I thought we might see the Cayman on our travels.

Not knocking this being pointed out but PorscheBoost article is internet journalism at its most pathetic, no original research, source Top Gear site, regurgitated xxxx. Punters on forums speculating/discussing/hoping on new models is fine, we expect some "pub talk" but I do expect better of journalists. Rant over.

Couldn't agree more Ralph. Lazy journalists recycling the same old stuff just to post some copy. It just goes to show how successfully Porsche has buttoned up tight information on the GT4. Jeff

A recent Autocar article implied that the new [4.0L?] 991 GT3 RS engine will form the basis for the next generation of flat-6 engines to be used in future 911s [and the GT4?]. However, that seems to me to be at odds with the fact that the "lesser" 991.2s will have turbocharged flat-6 engines while [some?] Boxsters and Caymans will have a turbo flat-4 engine which, for production purposes, undoubtedly will share common features with the flat-6. Clearly a lot of design and development time and effort has been spent on these engines and I can't see why Porsche would introduce such engines in the short term with a view to updating to GT3 RS spec in a few years time. Much more sensible to do it now if they are planning to do it. Of course, it could be that the GT3 RS engine will be unique to that car and designed specifically for racing, as was the Mezger engine. With luck a version could well find its way into the next generation GT4..! Jeff Edit: I forgot to add that, according to the article, Porsche product boss Wolfgang Hatz also confirmed that "Porsche will produce fully homologated GT4 race versions for customers wishing to compete in eligible events all over the world". Good news..!

Further rumour from pff - a poster who claimed to have spoken with Porky "high ups" at Daytona.. 3.8 385hp parts bin motor basically from the Carrera S. I asked power kit 3.8 he said yes. i said why only 385 ad not 430 and he smiled and said diff intake on Cayman. I told him motor shouldn't be 45 hp off for the Cayman intake. to which he replied it isn't, 385 is the marketing number. manual only. bespoke suspension. 2850 weight goal. All motorsport derived suspension and brakes. He told me analogue and very very fun. I asked 2-3 high ups and they all confirmed these specs. It is not a bespoke engine but a car which will focus on handling and fun!!

nothing new there as normal. not worth even thinking about spec now as it's only a week on Wednesday to find out. The price is the big thing I need to know, it needs to be affordable .... ie £65k plus leather and PCM and a few trinkets.

Ralph, I would guess that the detune is down to intake/throttle body, DME and possibly camshaft mods. Motorsport-derived suspension and brakes? That just means a bespoke suspension set-up [springs, dampers and ARBs] plus lightweight wheels and we've noted the 6-pot 991S front brakes. What a surprise..! A 1,290kg weight target doesn't sound groundbreaking considering a base Cayman S tips the scales at 1,340kg (DIN). Just include a couple of lightweight bucket seats and door cards. I don't think that the spec will be any surprise to us; as MrD says, it's the entry price which is the most important factor. Jeff
