Cayman GT4: Where are we up to now?

I have left my 987 spyder a couple of months and it started on the first go and regularly leave it more than 4 weeks!i think it all depends how you last used it ie I never do short journeys so battery is fully charged before laid up.

I have binned PTS, Porsche GB sorted it for me on a locked in car. Not waiting another 3 months, been waiting 2 years as it is. and in the end I was not 100% happy with mexcio blue esp as loads of people ended up ordering it. saved some money added ,£1.8k of other bits back in, so will be mega spec up car now, and OCT build.

Sounds like a plan D. Probably best to get in a car sooner rather than later with Porsche faffing around on guaranteed delivery dates, and the car looks great in any colour - it just depends upon your preferences.

Maybe you'd prefer to keep your powder dry, but if you'd care to share it, I'm sure we'd all be interested to hear your final spec. Back to yellow is it..?

Motor show spec, when we saw it for real at PEC my GF said, "you must have yellow" so been thinking about yellow ever since. esp as there was a Mexcio blue car outside and we both went a bit quite !!! added in Carbon dash and gear surround, not a total fan but seen a car with how I speced it and also disliked that, so Carbon it is. So as with my other 2 cars Spyder and R gone full launch spec, cannot go wrong imo. seems Porsche know what colour to launch cars in to look at their best. and I always wanted Yellow Stitching so I am happy. Spec well I have ticked every thing :) comes to £76k.

I also ditched the blue and have gone back to yellow, spec as follows, but is there anything that is glaringly missing ?

Racing Yellow

Black Leather Interior ( yellow stitching )

Bi-Xenon's incl. PDLS

Rear Wing Support in Black

Fuel Filler Cap, Aluminium Look

64 Ltr Fuel Tank

PCCB

Sport Chrono

Fire Extinguisher

Two Zone CC

Adaptive Sports Seats ( 18 way )

Automatically dimming mirrors and rain sensor

Storage lid in Alcantara with P Crest

Illuminated Carbon Door Sill Guards

sound Package Plus

Mobile phone Prep

PCM

Passenger Foot Net

Yellow centre on Steering Wheel

looks nice, it's not a 991 though so no Fire Extinguisher needed :)

No yellow belts though !! got to have those to tie in with the yellow door pulls.

Others are saying yellow belts, but, probably a step to far with yellow stitching on the seats, and that was an arm up my back decision, I wanted plain black seats. Now, that might work, yellow belts with black seats.

Carbon dash and gear surround - that's a lot of black, D. I rather like the contrasting silver bits but I suppose yellow belts, door pulls and stitching help to lighten the interior.

Steve, looks a very nice spec. You may want to add DAB radio for future-proofing - Audio system CDR Plus includes Sound Package Plus. Personally, I'd always spec Cruise Control since there are far too many speed cameras on our crowded roads, a situation that will only get worse. I'm always waxing lyrical about PDLS; a great option.

Incidentally, I think that the default stitching with leather Sport Seats is grey rather than black.

Have you got a delivery date yet?

Jeff

Sounds like yet another Porsche ploy to hobble the power of the "lesser" Porsches. So unfortunatley, even the GT4 hasn't avoided the cosh.

Jeff

If you didn't choose the right color door pulls...

$450 for two bits of fabric? And that's with 20% discount too..! Plus fitting costs if you're not DIY-oriented.

They're having a laugh aren't they?

Jeff

Are you just going to drive on the PEC tracks D, or are they letting you loose on the Silverstone circuit or local roads?

I see that someone has posted pics of the PEC's white GT4 on PH [ [link=http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=231&t=1492081&mid=0&i=1040&nmt=GT4+colours+&mid=0]http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=231&t=1492081&mid=0&i=1040&nmt=GT4+colours+&mid=0[/link] ]

Looking forward to your reading comments.

Just an observation for those of you who've spec'd PDLS; this option comes with black headlamp cleaning system covers in the front PU. Whilst this may not be a major concern for those who've chosen a darker body colour, a couple of black blobs on the front of white and yellow cars may look a bit odd.

Unfortunately, other than getting the covers painted body colour post-delivery the only option is to spec the painted covers for £138.

Jeff

I kept mine black to go with all the black detail :) looks good imo.

I did not want silver ones so speced colour coded, but when I saw they were black I took colour code off.

Some interesting comments from the Swiss bloke on P-9 in response to a query about using a GT4 as a daily driver.

Regarding the daily driver question, it really comes down to how tolerant you are. I am definitely more tolerant than not, to set the scene. There are a few things to look out for, some you can mitigate, others not:

[ul][*]Ground clearance: Manoeuvring down parking houses and and over speed bumps could be troublesome. I am not afraid of the front lip, it is a cheap replacement as long as the facia is not damaged (if the facia cracks, then it will be expensive!). However, the wheelbase is long and the car is low. I scraped, with hairs thin margin, the undercarriage going slowly over a bump once. Scary.[*]Tires: The Michelin Cup2 tires are amazing on dry asphalt. Very grippy! In the wet, when there is standing water, they start to feel unsafe at motorway speeds. The tires could be changed to normal street tires of course. Problem solved.[*]Bucket seats: To me these are complete no-go for daily use. The seats give fantastic support on the track, the best buckets I ever tried. They are also the most uncomfortable for daily use. Hard to get in and out. Zero comfort. Very hard. Could possibly be solved with pillows, but you will still need to get in and out. The sport seats should solve this problem.[*]Suspension: The car is very stiff and firm, but pretty compliant. You feel the suspension is of very high quality, since it never goes harsh, just hard. If you have nice roads, then I don't see a problem. If not, well... get prepared on a shaky ride.[*]Exhaust: The car is not loud in normal mode. Like PSE off in a Cayman S. No problem.[*]Sensory overload: You cannot switch off the feedback, the preciseness, the directness... the car demands your attention all the time. To me it does get a bit "overload" after more than 1-2 hours.[/ul] So to summarise, assuming you spec the car with sport seats, it is the ground clearance and the suspension which could cause problems. Both of these depend on your use of the car and the conditions of your roads. While not a problem as such, the sensory overload could be tiresome for longer trips. Personally, as a daily driver I would have gotten a GTS instead.
