Cayman GT4: Where are we up to now?

I see Adrian Newey has doing some wind tunnel work on the GT4 (via pff.de)

SO have Audi and the new TTRS !!!

odd they want to see what a GT4 is like while they think about the new TTRS model, did not think it would want to go head to head wit ha GT4 !

saying that A to B the mk3 TTRS will eat most other cars, I bet it will beat those 3 cars in the pic to 100mph also, interesting if they give it 400BHp :)

the old TTRS sold in very low numbers , I loved mine it was a great car, wonder how they can pitch the new one to buyers ?

Yes Ralph, a novel way to check the airflow....and more permanent than wool tufts..!

But that is a very dirty car.

Don't know if this as been previously posted, interesting, and those roads look amazing.

According to this link it looks as though Porsche is believed to be considering continuing to offer six-cylinder engines for its hottest variants rather than the flat-4 turbo engine.

I expect Porsche GT cars will remain normally aspirated for some time. I guess the turbo equivalency in racing series may be a factor albeit a somewhat indirect one. But is the 488 going to replace the 458 in GT racing and thus start a move to turbos in GT3?

Ralph,

The fact that the 4-cylinder cars will be labeled specifically the type 718 indicates to me that the N/A flat-6 could well soldier on in a 981.2 for a few more years, maybe in the S and GTS versions as well as the GT4, until the next generation Cayman arrives before the end of the decade.

I think it's inevitable that the GT cars will make the jump to turbo power sooner rather than later, prompted by moves from the competition. Who's going to make the first move though? In that Italian track day video you posted earlier, it was noticeable how comprehensively the 991 GT3 was out-accelerated on the long straight by the McLaren and Nissan turbo cars.

did you get to see my GT4 on Sun ? Jeff

was very busy so no way of finding anyone.

2 GT4 in the end tuned up in yellow.

Unfortunately not David. I somehow managed to get waylaid by various people inside the centre and by the time I'd made it outside you'd gone...rats.!

Another Caymanite mentioned that your car was joined by another yellow one. I bet they looked good in the sunshine.

Hope to catch up with you at another event in the New Year.

Pistonheads seem to be talking about a GT4RS does anyone know anything on here ?

Pistonheads, pff.de, Planet9 all speculating on futures. Only time will tell but if you just want a faster GT4 get a 991S Powerkit fitted

Geoff,

We've touched on the GT4 RS topic before on here and I think the general consensus is that with the introduction of the Clubsport race car it's unlikely to appear any time soon, if at all.

I suppose that if the Clubsport is successful it might spur Porsche on to produce a "race car for the road", so it might happen.

Jeff

Mine was the other yellow GT4 at PCGB open day last Sunday, I did see another one pull up, but didn't notice who got out of it, I did mean to have a chat with any other owners who turned up. What amazes me is the amount of interest in these GT4 cars.

Why does that amaze you ?

The GT4 has had so much positive feedback from the press, Evo car of the year in front of GT3RS and the best from Ferrari , Lambo etc

the car enthusiast wants to see what it is all about and there are so few around that whenever one is seen it generates interest.

Be pleased it seems to be the car to have this year, at least you are driving it and enjoying what it has to offer which includes a lot of interest from the general public.

It was a good turn out of Caymans at Cornbury House last weekend and if I saw any Cayman not sporting a Register badge then one was placed under the driver's wiper blade, good to see Jeff and several other Caymanites in attendance and hope to meet up again in the new year. Register Day is on 10th September at Kedleston Hall near Derby mark your calendars!

Geoff, sometimes you don't appreciate what you've got.

Just finished reading the article in January's GT Porsche, titled 2015's greatest Porsches, Cayman GT4, 911 GT3 RS, Boxster Spyder and the new 911 991.2, very interesting read, made me think more about keeping my 991 for a bit longer.
