Cayman GT4: Where are we up to now?

A very true belief, 'sometimes you don't appreciate what you've got, often until you don't have it anymore'.

I bought an RS6 Avant in 2003, and bought another in 2009. The 2009 model was the V10 with 572bhp which I had modified by MTM to 700bhp. After 6 months, I realised my original 450bhp model was better than the latest incarnation, so I sold the V10 model. Fortunately I'd kept the original RS6, which still gives me oodles of pleasure, the few times that I drive her !

Good job you're a "keeper" Jeremy. The only problem is that there are only so many hours in the day when you can enjoy driving all 5(?) cars..!

Jeff

No shortage of GT4s at OPC Bristol. 2 "second hand ones" for sale. I red I Black. Customer yellow one in showroom, another blue one outside, and a new white one in compound.

'Guilty' as charged .. there's a couple more lurking in the garage, hence I'll probably be selling my X50 996 turbo (1 owner, 22,000 miles, FSH) ..

S54 z3 M Coupe in Steel Grey (1 of 4) - This "was" my all time favourite car and i hope the GT4 replaces it in my Heart. I sold it and knew it was the wrong thing to do but felt pressured into doing so by family. Its now worth double what i sold it for and in OEM form one of the rarest M cars in the World ... Gutted! Heres a thought - i sold it for the same amount as the extras on my GT4 ... Now thats just plain crazy!

I still use this Picture as the screen saver on my iPhone ... Lets hope the GT4 hits the same emotional Heart Strings ... "A true Drivers Car" and probably the best Enthusiast M car ever designed by M Engineers in there own time and out of hours! Those stories will never happen in this day and age ... It was "way" better than my 997 GTS by the way - not in speed or control but just as a car you have an actual relationship and love for ... So Unique!

The Z3 M Coupe was also on my wanted list. Never got to drive one. Was concerned about the VANOS issue on the early engines and then was distracted by something else. As you say, very unique. Your side view pic looks a little squashed, which will bring out the bread van cliché :)

I think its a great car, because of its quirky styling and quirky reason for coming and what they cobbled it together from.

Anyway, back to the GT4. So what's the verdict on this car?

The 'verdict' .. ?

It's awesome .. from the outside, it's no ordinary Cayman. It's got lines of 911, lines of the 'prancing horse'. I've got GT Silver & the metallic pale paint effect amplifies the beautiful curves. Inside it's 'man & machine in harmony'. Superb quality. Perfect steering wheel size & position, gearbox and seat combination.

The engine raws into life with a great bellow. Once on the move, the acceleration is linear with 380 great horses gripping the road. With the 'sport' button depressed, the howl back on the exhaust when changing 'down' is therapy for the ears.

I've only covered 600 miles, so no revs above 5,000 & this car is sheer joy.

A Porsche thoroughbred !

A couple of pictures of mine, signal yellow which is a bit darker than speed or racing yellow. Was almost tempted by birch green but had never seen it in the flesh so bottled out.

Looks very nice Sandy. Colour shades are difficult to gauge in pictures but it does look slightly darker than the standard Racing Yellow.

Yellow - the launch colour - certainly looks to be the colour of choice for the GT4. Anything other than the standard colours is always going to be a shot in the dark and could prove to be an expensive mistake.

Jeff

I actually now think that the PTS colours are not as nice as the Standard colours - the lime green looks different but would i take it in front of Guards Red - Not on your life ... Its interesting on Rennlist the Grey cars are very popular. As we have all said a million times - there is not a Bad colour on the GT4 ... The only colour that i am not particularly fond of and originally liked is the White, as they seam to be the "flipper" colour ... I think the GT Silver is the Sleeper colour - PCCB and Yellow stitching would take some beating ... IMO

Red is great, but it won't look like that ;-)

carmines the colour for me, it looks great and has a bit of class, the one on the right.
