Cayman GT4: Where are we up to now?

Seems a high flip rate, as you know I was going to sell back in OCT, peak prices back then and a easy sell. now the markets flooded you may as well keep it as a free car to run for 2 years.

I have spent £600 on parts to set mine up nicer(although the post office cannot find them atm !! ) , and if I do keep it longer and no Manual gen 2 GT3 comes out will give it the 420Bhp kit from Jens.

I think now at £25k over retail as long as you speced the car NOT to high ie like mine at £75k you can still sell them, but as retail cost you £5k in fee's one may as well sell for £20k overs private and have the cheapest car for sale in that spec !

I am sure if I listed mine at 95k it would sell in spring, 75k got me a LOT of spec avoiding PCCB and PTS and CS pack, these £115k cars look expensive esp if a gen 2 GT3 in manual with a 4.0 engine and the 911R new short ratio's comes out at £110k !!!

the GT4 needed the x51 pack and short ratio's !! it would be a 100% keeper with those 2 things, atm it's not as exciting as it could be, so would swap to a short ratio manual 6 speed GT3 in a blink of an eye.

I was so close to buying another R last Friday and spending £20k on it, but the car sold very fast , was a PCGB member 1 owner car 7k miles never been out in the wet, with BIG spec, all the R bits plus xenons and leather !! , annoyed I did not say yes on Friday as it sold Saturday.

The next generation of the Cayman will join its sister car, the 718 Boxster in switching to a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. However, Andreas Preuninger, the boss of the Porsche division that produces the GT4 Cayman alongside the GT3, GT3 RS and new R versions of the 911, has suggested that his engineers are likely to stick with six cylinders for the next ‘ultimate’ Cayman.

“The Cayman GT4 has been a big success,” said Preuninger, “so you can imagine that we’re not about to dump that model. But the next Cayman is not necessarily all four-cylinder engines.” That could open up the next GT4 to feature even more power than the existing model’s 3.8-litre, 380bhp flat-six motor - although Preuninger added, “That car [the existing Cayman GT4] is all about driving pleasure, not necessarily outright power or speed.”

The GT4 is likely to remain the most potent Cayman, too. Preuninger admitted that Porsche’s engineers were “tempted” to build a GT4 RS edition but said, “The problem with that is that you end up with a car where you need to charge the same as a GT3 RS, so there’s no point. It’s not in the plan.”

Bad luck on a GT4 RS then David but there's hope that the Gen2 will have some sort of power hike to keep it above the flat-4 turbo powered GTS.

the flat 6 maybe even turbo ;-) he does say he will stay with the flat 6, he did not say a NA flat 6 ;-)

 
Agreed re AP D.

Apparently there's no room for a flat-6 turbo; hence the 718s are 4-cylinder, although the unibody is still basically a 981.

there was no room for a PDK either back in OCT, but we now have a GT4 with one ;-)

IF Porsche go turbo for the GT3 the 540C starts to look like a nice buy with real steering and performance in spades even from the base model.

Will we see another NA GT car, who knows !

 
I don't think it was the case that there wasn't room for the PDK transmission D, it was just that AP & Co didn't have sufficient development time to get it into the production car rather than the race car.

I think it's inevitable that the Mk2 GT4 will have the PDK 'box option and a power hike - via DME or maybe a capacity increase? - to keep it ahead of the 718 GTS. Somehow I can't see Porsche using the very expensive X51 Powerkit to achieve the power increase if they want to keep the price competitive but I suppose they could make it an option.

AP says that the GT cars will be N/A for the time being but I think it's inevitable that Porsche will have to take the turbo route some time soon if the race cars are to remain competitive against their turbo-powered rivals.

I'm very happy to have a non PDK, non turbo GT4 6cyl coming within the next few days.

What would I change?............ok, the handbrake.

Can't wait to drive it.

Coming from a PDK 997 the GT4 is going to feel very different and I will post a picture.

Had much debate with white and changed it at the last minute.

It went in to bodyshop on the 16/2/16 not chased it since Tuesday last week. Should be here this week fingers crossed!!!

When is yours coming and what else you specced ?

 
White looks great but I eventually settled on Carmine after a couple of weeks pondering.

Mine entered the body shop 4/2/16 and is now at Sheerness docks.

I have these options – Full Buckets, Clubsport package, red seat belts, PCM. What boxes did you tick?

Carmine, 17way seats, heated seats, pcm, carbon inlays, carbon sills, alcantara visors, leather dash, leather inner sills, light package, and a few other bits. cost was £77903. Didn't take long to rack up 12k on options. + I've bought a indoor cover, fuel cap and the full decals from the parts department.

I I was told 918 buckets were not available.

Going for for it with the decals might not keep them going to see.

 
I will miss the heated memory seats from my previous Porsche but I felt bucket seats made the driving more of an event. Like the colour choice, the seats were a tricky decision and of course passengers will certainly have their own opinion!

I liked the carbon trim pieces a lot and very nearly selected a few. The decals will suit the model so please post some pictures when it is finished.
