Porsche Spotting

Saw a red 944 cab on the a616 from newark towards caunton with the roof down this monday. I was in the red 924S.

Typical! I drive miles each month in mine and rarely see another proper Porsche (ie not a Boxster or 996/7) and then I pop down to Hampshire today in my Wife's car and see 2 x 993 and an SC!

Am going to Heathrow in it tomorrow, so will try and park in sight of the gold Lux I often see just outside the wire of the Eastern Engineering Centre

As predicted saw nothing except 996, Boxster and Gayman, apart from a lovely red 356 coupe on a trailer!

Because my car is only shiny on one side, people who I overtook must have thought my car looked really good, people who overtook me must have thought it a real heap!

Nice white 968CS on Barnsford Road at Glasgow Airport last night. L plate I think. Was in the 944 and waves were exchanged followed by "for god's sake" from wifey!

Gold 924 on Station Road, Harpenden this morning - waved back.

I was in my 944 cab and stopped to let him out of the petrol station in Harpenden, very friendly chap, he must have wondered what was going on if you were also in your Porsche!

Spotted a few today at the Specalist cars of Malton big breakfast meet.

Also a couple hiding around the back under the paint shop, nice to see 944's being saved and restored.

Missed Malton due to travel commitments, alas, but while I was out shopping for plants in my 944 this afternoon I had a pleasant chat with the owner of a nice red 924S in Northallerton.

What is it about drivers of newer Porsches, is it that they think they weren't made before 2000 or are they so focused on anything that is a mirror image of their own they don't recognise something more than ten years old?
Used mine lots this weekend, well it is a cabriolet after all! Saw a couple of boxsters didn't wave a quite new 911 cab (not a clue which version) but he didn't wave either a pair of Cayennes in convoy, didn't wave, and a couple of Caymans don't know if they even saw me as they were on the other side of the armco. BUT did get a wave from a very pretty metallic blue 356 cabriolet at the bottom of Burrington Combe on Saturday and from a powder blue l/h 356 coupe on the M5 south of Wellington 6pm Sunday. Older is not only best, but definetly friendlier! Must have driven over 400 mile over the weekend through Somerset, Devon and Cornwall but not a 944 (924,928,968) to be seen anywhere!

Keep waving at them, they will soon get the idea[:D][:D]

There are enthuisasts that drive a Porsche and then there are owners of a Porsche, or wavers & non-wavers probably the same goes for all marques.

As far as I can see there's no point with Cayenne drivers: I've never been acknowledged by one. I doubt that many people in the market for a new superheated two-tonne SUV even know that the 944 is a Porsche. I never get anything back from 'cooking' 997 owners either, though that might change as the cars get older, and tehre is an honourable exception for people in a GT3 who usually seem to be more into the history of the marque than those in the normal cars. Air cooled 911 folk are usually responsive and friendly, 996 folk increasingly so (I reckon there are a lot of former 944 owners in those now). Boxster and Cayman owners are slim pickings, maybe 25% response rate.

924 / 944 / 968 / 928 = 100% response rate, naturally!

Completely true Lowtimer. The older model Porsche brethren are seemingly a much cheerier and more sociable lot on the roads compared to the new model owners. Massive generalisation perhaps, but just what I have seen for myself. Never fail to get a smile or flash from 924/944/968/928 types. TVR and older model MG drivers a nice lot too.
If I realise my dream and get a Panemera in the next few years, I'm remaining faithful to the cheery waving brigade!

Early last week, I spotted a silver 944 but could possibly be a 924 (couldn't really stop to see) with teledials at the Halfords Auto Centre on Castle Boulevard/Nottingham with what looks like some serious body work being done such as replacement sills, etc. It was there the next day with what looked like a replacement windscreen going in.

There's been a silver 924 parked up outside a factory unit on the road for a long time but disappeared maybe a few months ago - maybe its the same one.

Good luck to whoever it is!

been using mine all week for the 40 mile commute to Brum - only interesting Pork sighting was an orange racing 911 on back of a trailer being towed up the A5, nr Rugby (on way home from silverstone?) - only I saw it too late to wave, as usual

Forgot to say that around the M25 last Sunday I was in the BMW rather than the Porsche but had an enjoyable moment making a space to let in a new black-and-orange GT3RS. The noise was epic!
