Porsche Spotting

What is it about drivers of newer Porsches, is it that they think they weren't made before 2000 or are they so focused on anything that is a mirror image of their own they don't recognise something more than ten years old?
Used mine lots this weekend, well it is a cabriolet after all! Saw a couple of boxsters didn't wave a quite new 911 cab (not a clue which version) but he didn't wave either a pair of Cayennes in convoy, didn't wave, and a couple of Caymans don't know if they even saw me as they were on the other side of the armco. BUT did get a wave from a very pretty metallic blue 356 cabriolet at the bottom of Burrington Combe on Saturday and from a powder blue l/h 356 coupe on the M5 south of Wellington 6pm Sunday. Older is not only best, but definetly friendlier! Must have driven over 400 mile over the weekend through Somerset, Devon and Cornwall but not a 944 (924,928,968) to be seen anywhere!

Where in Somerset are you Ian? I'm in North Somerset (near Bristol) and there are a few 944s around here.

I've never been waved at by any of the newer Porsches, but then I never wave to them - doesn't seem much point really.

On another note, I saw a 924 in St Germain in Paris last week! Do the reaches of this forum extend that far? :ROFLMAO:

Saw two this pm, on way to Leicester saw a 924 on the A47 - no wave back [:(]

Then at OPC Leicester, (no surprise seeing a Porsche there!) but parked next to an immaculate 968 in dark blue, reg M** HRU. I'm sure I've seen pics of it on here before? Looked fantastic[8D] No one in it to wave at though

Aha Hairyarse that was my Blue Bullet you saw at Leicester OPC - cheers for the compliment dude [:)]

I saw your car when I arrived but it had gone by the time I'd finished chatting to Chris, Martin and Glenn, both cars looked pretty funky parked next to each other [8D]

Didn't realise you were there, would have said hello, thought Glenn said you hadn't been to collect yet

Yours really does look lovely, have you done much to it or has it always been sorted?

After I left realise missed decent photo opportunity!

Cheers
Andy

I had the wheels refurbished when I bought her in April 2009 and she'd recently been washed but apart from that the exterior has a patina commensurate with her age, not bad for a daily driver/tracktoy. . .

Fitted CompBrake front calipers (Big Red copy) and KW v3's back in 2009 too, she's pampered but by no means a garage/concours queen.

Next time you're heading there send me a PM, I'll buy you a coffee at Cafe OPC [:D]

Glad it's used as intended [8D]

Tbh I was never sure about the 968 before, but after seeing yours I think I could easily fall for one!

Just saw yr edit and coffee invite, will take you up on that [;)]

A few pics to whet your appetite Andy . . .

Hmmm. Drove past a lovely S2 or Turbo yesterday on the Penn Road, exactly outside a house where there's a 944 parked under a cover. Today was behind a 944 turning in to Brackley Road, Holmer Green, less than a mile from home.

Is my little part of the Chilterns a secret area where 944 owners go to live? [&:]

Being pedantic 2.7s are Lux's, and "S" (2.5 16v) aren't but look the same!

ye know what i mean [:D] it wasnee an s2 or turbo. [:D]

I cannot tell any of the 911 range apart unless I can see the badge on the back and even then i probably couldn't tell which model [:(]

I always assumed the 944S was a 2.7 16v ........... shows how little I know doh!
I think this calls for some kindly peasant oops I mean pedant [:D] lol to show us some pictures to illustrate the differences.[;)]throughout the range

Hope all you guys and gals are having a fab weekend and eating and drinking too much but not whilst you're driving [;)][;)]

me neither.[:D]

Saw a black S2 heading north on the A1 at Stamford this lunchtime. Didn't wave as heading south and in my Beemer!

Only 2.5 N/A made before mid '85 - only certain recognition point - inset - ie NOT flush screen and square dash (l/h parking wipers but they could be on later lhd car!) they also have smaller offset wheels but later wheels can be fitted with adaptors and 85.5 to 86.5 also have smaller offsets as standard.

All N/A 2.5 and 2.7 cars look the same from 86.5 on - flush screen, larger offset wheels - CANT fit early wheels and r/h wipers - you cannot tell! (If its on a "G" plate its almost certain to be a 2,7 - probably also on a "F")

944 S only has "S" badge on rear and MAY have "16v Ventillier" badge on front wings but this was a no cost delete option.

Turbo made from mid '85, has smooth front, flush screen and 85.5 to 86.5 cars had narrow offset (early type) wheels, all have "turbo" badge on boot and may have "turbo" decal on O/S front wing.
Some were Turbo S models and these only have extra S on rear.

S2 (3.0 litre) look the same as the Turbos except for the badge on the back! Very late ones of both may have bridge type rear spoiler.

Cant go by rear toastrack / lower spoiler / bare as these were often options and retro fitted!

Then just to confuse quite a number of early cars have been "brought up to date" and have Turbo/S2 fronts, both with original and pattern parts! Also later suspension is sometime fitted - especially at the rear

I've seen N/A cars with turbo badging and Lux front ends and early cars with later type rear wipers!

Thats about as good a guide as I can come up with - just a list of probabilities really!

All in all - unless you can have a good look at a stationary car - you can only guess. And even then take the badges off an S2 -and without lifting the bonnet it could be a Turbo!

And, all Cabriolets are S2s - and have canvas roofs.
Unless they are turbos, that is.
Aargh - you've got me at it now!!

thanks anyway Mke, that has helped me!

Planning a run down to Oxford this morning in the Cab, 4 up with kids in the back, might see a few of you out and about?

Andy

Out and about today (185miles) spotted a really nice very dark green 911cab (not sure which model) Bickenacre way, smart 944 cab on the A127 nice no. plate G4RY W, waves exchanged to both

White 997 cab in Colchester, black 4s passing at speed on the M2 a couple of Boxster's and that was it surprisingly

Hope you all had a good day too.

4 944s at the Bedfordshire classic motor show at Woburn today, including mine. A very nice guards red s2 in the car park (personalised plate with the name Joe in it) and a couple of white ones in the display area, one lux and one s2. I initially parked mine in the car park, thinking that it wasn't quite old enough to make the display area. However after walking around and seeing the likes of a 15 year old rover 214 on display and also having washed mine this morning, I felt like it had to join the display!
