Thanks for the heads up - thought my knowledge of the 944 would stand me in good stead but the car seems to be completely different when you get into any depth - I'll give the other forum a check. It was the mileage that made me go for it - I've never seen anything as low either apart from the ridiculously low mileage dealer stuff at silly money. Wasn't particularly impressed with the auto gearbox either but now I'm using the tiptronic element it's far better. The question now is, which do I keep and which one gets moved on????

Use the tip gearbox in manual mode unless in a traffic jam - you'll be surprised how quickly you fall for it! When I bought my coupe in Nov 1998 it was the first auto I'd had, initially I was a bit dubious - but 16 years on I would not go back to a manual gearbox, even our shopping trolley is a tip! OK, I always drive the 968 in manual, but the MB i leave in full auto, but they're very different cars.

The tip especially suits the cab, as it's more a car for pottering round small roads, roof down enjoying scenery and smells, whereas the coupe tempts you to put the foot down. OK, you can (and I occasionally do) put the foot down in the cab, and there's little difference (apart from scuttle shake and squeaks) to the coupe, but she's more suited to the gentle life - and less suited to motorway driving. The blind spot on the rear quarters and the small rear window are the major difference, roof up, to the coupe.

I would strongly recommend getting a proper wind deflector - the OPC variety that fits straight into the pre-drilled holes in the rear quarter panels rather than the after market ones where you have to drill the holes (very acurately) yourself. OK, it'll cost you about £300, but I've seen posdts on 968uk where cab owners have tried the aftermarket variety, returned them and bought proper ones. It makes a noticable difference when driving roof down - especially to the unpleasant noises from the passenger seat (aka SWMBO!!!).

Just bought this, collecting it Friday. Weekend South then driving home to Scotland.
Excited.

First time 968 owner George? Have you yet found www.porsche968uk.co.uk, quite an active forum for 968 owners. Roughly where are you located?

Chris,
I am in Sunny (ha ha) Dunoon, Argyll, Scotland. I'll check your link as the 968 pages here seem a bit disappointing.
Cheers

Been missing lately due to IT issues (crap speed) but up and running on super fast BB.

Yes My Horizon Blue Cab is having it's annual service + MOT + a few small jobs ready for summer!

Well well, another horizon blue cab, twin to Memartin near Maidstone! Mine's Tahoe blue, a bit darker than Horizon but not as dark as the other blues - I love the colour! Don't suppose you're anywhere near Kent Tony!

Hi Chris,

Not too near South Norfolk about 11 miles North of Diss on Norfolk Suffolk border!

I should make Gaydon on 11th April if you are going, and would like to do 1st Aug Goodwood but we have an R12 event the next day so not sure if I can make it work as Goodwood's a fair stretch from here but will check out the likely driving time and then make a decision?

I love the colour, also very fond of the Cobalt Blue metallic we had on the S2!

In for service at moment, new top fitted next month, promax chip & top & bottom strut braces fitted last year, so getting there - next up is a louder SS exhaust system so gradually getting how we want it!

Regards

Tony

Have a look at the members map on 968uk Tony, I think you'll find a few other 968 owners not too far away from you - we certainly seem to have an Essex contingent as well as Norfolk and Suffolk!
