Sat Nav/TMC

When you do get it, be prepared for some magical mystery tours!

It is obviously very clever, but also proof that the German sense of humour is much under-rated. [;)]

Colchester to SE London via B Roads, the A13 and the Blackwall Tunnel, using 'Dynamic' (shortly to be relabelled 'Comedy'?) probably 40 minutes slower than the 'Human' route would have been.

I'll stick with it as I am going to see parts of the country that I would otherwise miss.

A confused OPC, surely not!
Elbows and asses spring to mind.
Here's a new thought. Do are European cousins get their TMC working in our country when there here on hols?
If they suffer the same problems, then you can guarantee that Porsche AG will not be upgrading our cars FOC because it could involve ALL cars delivered before April irrespective of origin and location. Finger crossing may not be enough, we will see.

UK price list/description for MY06 clearly states 'Traffic Messaging channel (standard when PCM/navigation specified)' Surely that is black and white and nobody could say otherwise!

As of today I still have not received anything at all from PGB saying that MY05 cars will be upgraded to TMC foc. I also not holding my breath, but Rob & I will continue to press as hard as is possible.

Yes, we're all watching this one with interest. Have an ealry 997S, so would be good to get the latest release of map as well as the otehr gizmos.
Peter

I have a 2005 Cayenne April build that has this TMC problem. Would definitely insist on a free installation to enable it on my PCM and a free DVD to come with it.

Derek: Appreciate and applaud your efforts. Pls include the 05 Cayennes as well.

Gents, this thread started on 27 Jun - although this issue has existed for much longer.

Derek and Rob have represented our views in the best way possible - not least to PBG at the Festival; however, it is now 3 weeks since then and all has gone quiet. Surely by now Porsche have reached a decision on how to handle the dissatisfaction of its customers - and has a proposed way ahead? Likewise, I'd be interested in the views of our illustrious Chairman - who has been noticeably quiet throughout!

Derek

My 997 cab collected on 7 April 2005 had option 670 - does that mean my model year 05 will or wont have TMC working.

I'd still like to know if an update/fix will be also given to 996 PCM2 owners who were told two years ago that it is available only to find that it isn't available on the car. At one point I showed the brochure to the DP only to get a blank face and no further help or support whatsoever.

The system does work in Europe (or at least it did when I drove the car back from the factory) so I believe it is simply a software upgrade/disk issue - nothing too expensive but it should be there! I have just upgraded my 05 X5 software to the latest version FOC from BMW simply using a new CD in the DVD. It took 3 minutes.....how difficult can it be and when will Porsche learn how to treat loyal customers?

I accept that new 997 owners are getting frustrated, but I had this issue in June 2003 and was ignored then!

Since the Festival. sadly I have heard nothing from Porsche Cars Great Britain.

I also notice very little said about TMC on Cayenne, 996 and Boxster forums. Perhaps members of those registers should lobby their Register Secretaries. The more clout, the better.

Mark, I accept your comment, but what we TMC users really want is not only a united front but a concerted effort by all four Register Secretaries. Directing your members to the 997 thread is great, but no RS offered to join me at the Festival when we lobbied PGB. A few 997 members have far less clout than the weight of PCGB. More importantly, I'm sure this thorny problem would have been sorted months ago is both the PCGB Board and all four RSs, with the weight of their members behind them, pressed PGB strongly for a resolution. As it is, I'm suspect PGB have more important topics to address and hope that we few 997 owners will quietly fade away.

Derek,

Let's talk about it. I'm with you all the way (you know that from the conversations we've had so far).
Speak to you later? This evening ok?

You must have been talking Porsche all evening with someone else Derek - I've been calling since 7PM and you're phone is constantly busy [:D]
Another day then[:)]

Derek,

I'm a 987 owner and have contributed to this thread since June; although I didn't attend the Festival and, therefore, could not offer you support when you and Rob met with PGB, I'm willing to assist in championing this cause in any way that I can.

Derek

Derek

Thank you for your support, you have always been there. Whilst I still 997 RS I will do everything to try and secure an acceptable solution for all those with ineffective TMC. Rob will continue the Cause when I take delivery of my Cayman and has already compiled a register of those who have notified him that that have a problem. So Guys, please contact Rob if you have not registered. Surely people power and purchasing power has some clout.

Sorry Mark, my phone had been knocked off the hook by Biggles (my cocker spaniel). Of course, being broadband, I did not notice. I'm in tonight.
