what did you do to your 944 today

changed the dif oil at the weekend, the old stuff looked like treacle and smelled really bad.Easy job, worth doing.

Fat Albert Well yesterday I changed the front Brake Pads in 20 minutes (a new record for me), checked my gear linkage because it is feeling very sloppy, and fixed my passenger door handle so it doesn't stick anymore.
How did you do that? Ive poured loads of WD40 on mine buts I now have to use a bent fork to pull the handle bit out. Wife not impressed its part of the family silver!

There is a little screw in the door jamb that if you remove, allows you to pull the handle out about 1/4" I then sprayed in loads of WD40 (holding a cloth underneath as black gunk pours out) whilst operating the handle until it eases off, then sprayed in a load of silicone oil. The hard bit is getting the screw back in, the first one I did is cross-threaded (but no one can see it) the secon one I used a Sash Cramp to hold the door handle in tight and the screw went back very easily. Let me know how you get on!

ORIGINAL: A9XXC Want to change gearboz oil - can't get plug out! Next attempt will be with drill!
Todays top tip. Make sure you can get the level plug out first, there's nothing worse than draining the gearbox only to find you can't re-fill it. I found this out the hard way. []

If you can't get the fill plug out then the other top tip for oval dash cars is to fill it from the speedo drive.

Picked the car up from Ninex in Maidenhead with new clutch master and slave cylinders. Also a new check valve for the fuel pump. So that's how the clutch is supposed to feel! Much better than before. The hot start issue also seems to be gone.

My Black Turbo has gone in to OPC Leicester to have it's MOT and also have it's windscreen wiper mechanism and blades replaced after I stole them for my racecar[:D]

Collected mine from the spray shop after having the sills sorted. No more scabs! Waxoyl dripping out of every drain hole. Will have to poke those clear as I presume the sills should 'breathe'? Started it up and it sounded like a truck! Horrid loud ticking from the front, gruff out of sorts engine note and no pull at all! So this is what empty hydraulic lifters sound like? Yuk! Took about 5 minutes for the things to refill and restore normal service. Quite nerve wracking and not at all what you expect from a premuim car! But now she's going better than ever.

Filled my sills with Bilt & Hamber Dynax and left it all to drip out over 24 hours. Car smells like a tarmac truck now [:'(] Nobody is to sniff too close at Silverstone today [:D]

Did a lot of stuff yesterday and today including stripping out - full thread will appear but here's all the info. [link=http://www.performancecarblog.co.uk/porsche-944-s-first-changes/]Part 3 of track car[/link]

Haven't done anything to it this weekend. Spent all day yesterday in the garage drinking tea and having a tidy up. Also put engine back in a VW camper as I had it out to repair and replace aload of tinware and fit a new engine compartment seal. The Scottish VW show is on at Biggar next weekend so alot of vans going through the workshop at the moment this means I have to help as I can't stand back and watch my pals when they have so much work on. Any way because the show is on next wekend it means I get the garage to myself and will hopefully get on and finnish the passenger side off. I will post some photo's when I am done.

Popped down to Silverstone for the "Post Classics" event at the Porsche experience centre. And only a tenner! Fantastic playground! Lots of nice people and cars and some Boxsters[:D] Took only a few pics - [link=http://s787.photobucket.com/albums/yy158/A9XXC/PCGB%20At%20the%20Porsche%20Experience%20Centre%20Silverstone/]Silverstone[/link]
