what did you do to your 944 today

I though about fitting the new fuel filter that arrived on Saturday, then changed my mind and went for a drive down the coast with the kids for a chippy tea and play in the arcades before I set off for my gig in Gateshead (in the 944 of course) [:D]

New Windscreen fitted, managed (after much mucking around) to get the car 3/4 into the garage as rain was forecast, but it was too tight around the car for the windscreen bloke to work, so pulled it out onto the drive and put a gazebo up over it which did the trick as the heavens opened as soon as the old screen was out...

Took her for a spirited drive around bits of West Sussex and she put a big grin on my face - the new turbo has certainly made quite a difference !!! Sadly rain stopped play..

Fitted the new fuel filter today, and for those that remember me pulling out a 10 year old air filter last year, I think the fuel filter must have been about the same age!! Fuel that came out was black [&:] Ticks over much better now and I swear it pulls better ( but as anyone who does their own work will agree the car always feels better even if it isn't after you work on something lol)

I took mine for it's MOT today and was very pleased as it passed with no advisories, spent the last few months restoring sills and bottom of front wings and rear quarters, adjusted front wheelbearings, serviced, changed gearbox oil. Time to enjoy her now. Thanks to Alasdair(sulzeruk) for his help with parts and assistance with gearbox oilchange, wheelbearing adjustment and use of his ramp. Alan.

Drove my standard 1990 turbo today,Parked up and for the first time ever I looked at it and thought the D90s looked a bit puny..?[&:]

First of all I went to put some air in my slow-punctured tyre, I could feel it was a bit soft, got to tescos and they wanted 20p for air!! In a fit of Pique I got my compressor out and did it with that whilst other people waited!! I then went to OPC Harston to get my bits (all there bar one bush) only to find that they added up to £72 not the £46 mentioned...If I had known that I would have got them from elsewhere and had them delivered - hmmmpphhh I then lifted the front of the car and did the offside of the ARB (ably assisted by my 8 year old son, I then got in trouble for the state of him when we had finished!!) wow! what a difference re-connecting the ARB makes!!!

Yes, he loved it, he removed and re-fitted the front ARB mounting more or less by himself (smacking himself in the face with the socket wrench in the process) so felt a real sense of achievement. It would have been quicker on my own, and I certainly could have sworn a lot more when trying to loosen off the broken drop link, but I want him to grow up having the knowledge and courage to open a tool box and have a go and I think it is great having a car that we can do this kind of work on together and play 'Wheeler Dealers' (Ed China is a god in his eyes...)

Hello everyone I'm new. What I did for my 944 today was find this forum. I've had the car a year. It's a turbo cabriolet with 50K miles only. Just past its 20th birthday the day before yesterday and if you use the gears it passes just about everything else too! The only other car I've ever owned to compare with it was a Audi Quattro turbo coupe. I spent some of the winter under it getting aquainted. About the only things that needs attention are the brake calliper wear pads which show signs of lifting a bit as a result of corrosion. The information given on the forum about how to tackle the job will make it easy. The quality of the input is fantastic. I hope, in time, I'll have something useful to contribute myself.

Welcome onboard Bill. One of only 48 Turbo Cabs still left taxed and on the road if the figures from the DVLA are accurate. Feel free to start your own post with plenty of gratuitous pics - its always nice to see a new car [:)]

And mine! I love that program[:D]
It was actually the 928 programme that helped me convince my Wife that it would be OK to buy a 944, he just kept going on about how well engineered the car was and how easy it was to maintain...

Turbo Cab: sweet. I shouldnt like it, because its fundamentally flawed, but Id still snap one up if I saw it at the right price.

Hello and welcome, i would love a quattro, a mate had one when they were rallying i had the pleasure of taking it down to Yorkshire, absolutely brill.......serious lag though. Not sure if your cab is standard ? if it is and you think it's quick get a Promax level 1/2 kit on it or similar.................only serious performance cars will be quicker and a lot of the lag will be gone.

Welcome from a fellow turbo cab owner! pics pics pics!

Not such a good day today. The investigation into the overheating lead to removing the head to replace the gasket. A quick pressure test on the head seemed a sensible option, and low and behold, there's a crack. So, that's another lump of 944 engine for the bin. Hey ho. JM Garage have recommended a modified head be used, and while we're at it, they have advised to me to think about how much power I am aiming for. Apparently if I want 400 bhp we may as well fit an uprated camshaft while we're in there, but if 300 bhp is enough, the standard one will do. Decisions, decisions...
