what did you do to your 944 today

went for a 60mile hack around suffolk to get mine to clock 140k[;)] see a couple of other porsches goldie colored 944 and a 2005 boxster

new forum user here. i took my new 944 turbo for a blat in the lovely sun! was great fun, apart from the cycle race i managed to stumble across lol

Bastards. Every single one of you. I'm at home with the man-flu, lost my voice, running a temperature and feeling like death slightly cooled-down. I haven't even seen my 944 today, let alone done anything to it. The gearbox oil change, the change of the oil pressure switch and the re-sealing of the rear lights has had to wait. I hate you all. (Especially you, Andy Hairyarse. 'Cos you reminded me of the re-sealing the rear lights job, which I had forgotten about and was actually looking forward to. Because it doesn't involve lying on the floor, or nasty chemicals, or anything difficult.) []. And [:'(]. And [:(] for good measure. Oli.

Get well soon Oli. BTW - I drove my s2 for most of today.... it's been almost 6 months since I spotted another 944 on the road (besides those at the same meetings I was at).

If it's any consolation Oli, I had a small bought of man flu too, not a major one, was laid up a tad yesterday. I did enjoy being out in the sun today doing it, as it helped clear out my snotiness [:D] Be well soon - and well sealed! Andy

Can't have been proper man flu - there is no such a thing as a small bout of that. I'm glad you recovered, but am suspicious of your illness ... (and it's not often you read a phrase like that on a Porsche forum, eh?) Grumpy and ill smilies again. [] and [:'(] and [:(]. They all still apply. Oli. P.S. Thanks for your well-wishes Andy and Steve. Appreciated. Hopefully I'll be able to do something other than croak 'Nevermore' tomorrow. Edgar Allen Poe's bloody raven managed better than that.

Well something must be wrong with me as I couldn't even spell bout properly!! Rob saw me yesterday and can vouch that I was slightly rough - maybe it was just a man cold!! [:D]

I managed to get a few things done today, some cavity wax in the sill's, treated the inner front wings painted them with a zinc primer, some hammerite and then some stone chip. I also fitted the fuel filter I have been putting off doing for a long time then cleaned and painted the inlet manifold with some high temp paint.

Swapped the lower steering column after noticing the "free play" in it whilst changing the oil pressure sender. Replacement part was only £15 - very pleased with that and one of my "additional sounds" has gone!

I picked up a few things from OPC Leicester (I was out that way collecting bits for the Rover from the MG Rover parts place) so I finally got to meet Glenn, whom I'd been speaking to on the phone quite a bit ordering stuff. So, on my lounge floor (much to the disgust of my girlfriend), I now have a huge pile of car parts including door mirror and door handle seals for the Porsche and the clips and backing plates for the seat tilt knobs. After work today I fitted the backing plates and secured the handles with the clips. Before (The 'hacked' hole is not my handywork by the way):

I'm also amazed that all the bits I got from the OPC were massively cheaper than any of the other specialist suppliers. [:)] I may also have fallen in love with a cayman that I sat in while I was waiting for Glenn. [8D]

Finally got round to fitting a replacement universal joint. The previous owner decided to fit a scrap-yard one that was only worth throwing on the scrap heap (one day I'll completely undo all of the previous owner's dodgy workmanship!) so one of the first things I bought for the car was a replacement one. It's only today that I've found the time to get the job done. It was a bit of a pain figuring out how to get it swapped, but next time it'll be much easier! I have to say that this is the single best thing I've done to the car since I've bought it. The handling has been transformed! I can't wait to get it tracked when it gets some new rear tyres next week. [:D] Next job - engine mounts[&:]

Filled the old girl up to the brim with jungle juice this morning £70!! £70 !! and that was cheap juice from Asda, world is going mad, MAD I say

[:D]Mothersday so the kids can sort the washing up/house work etc...... So had a go at sorting my broken wiper mechanism .....The threaded portion of the frame had broken off both ends tried to buy a new one but No longer available so I got work to machine me 2 phospher bronze threaded bits and press fitted these into the casting ...Then just for fun I cleaned and polished the mechanism and applied polytol then added the new rubber washers, spacers etc I got from my OPC ...and a new set of wiper arms and blades [:D] Whats Mothersday for if not to give fathers a day off[:D]

drove it up to balmaha and back, most enjoyable drive... though i found more water in the rear footwell, even with the sunroof taped up.

Finally managed to remove all the trapped air from the cooling system after changing the thermofan switch on the radiator. Took the bleed screw on top of head out and replaced with a sawn off brake nipple (m8x1mm pitch) and a length of clear tubing running back into expansion tank. Ran engine up to operating temp and waited about 30 mins till the pipe ran clear. Much better than having litres of coolant spewing out bleed screw onto drive. A bit messy putting the original bleed screw back but overall a much cleaner solution. No more gurgling sounds from the heater and the temp gauge is behaving itself. Also modified the dim dip headlights so they don't pop up on 1 st setting. Thanks to John's post here: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=348691&mpage=1&key=񕎶

Painted and cleaned loads more bits.Nearly ready to start putting it all back toghether again.Yee ha!!!! I feel like I am finally starting on the road to completion.

ORIGINAL: Hairyarse Blimey, you wouldn't think a new UJ would make that much difference! well done [;)]
Well, I didn't think it would have made such a difference either, but the amount of play in the old UJ was huge! The tram-lining I was telling you about at the Rutland meet has gone away...I think the play in the UJ was just allowing the front wheels to go wherever-the-hell they wanted.
