what did you do to your 944 today

Mine went to the rescue of my Wife's 5 series that got a puncture this morning, she then got caught up in the A1 hell on the school run this afternoon and spent an hour in a jam...not having driven a manual for months! She was not a happy bunny....

I got a nice pair of rear tyres fitted at my local F1autocentre. Avon zv5 to match the fronts. I took the opportunity to get the alignment checked and adjust the front toe. I'm glad I did because the toe was quite far out. There are still a couple of other reds, but the garage owner insisted that I drive it for a bit first before deciding to book it in to get the other reds sorted. Even just changing the toe has notably improved the steering feel and the slight shimmy at 66mph has gone away. Just in time for the 170 mile journey tomorrow!

Did 230 miles today, took my past 229,000 miles, got held up by an S2 at 125 leptons and generally fooled around riding the boost wave

Cheers mate [:)] Well, today I had a look at the drivers side electric window that inexplicably stopped working a few weeks ago. The voltage was dropping when I operated the switch, so it had to be jammed. I dismantled the whole mechanism only to find that everything was moving smoothly as it should [8|] I cleaned everything and applied a new layer of grease so it works now. I started to look at changing the mirror gasket while I had the door apart, but it looks like a far bigger job than I anticipated. How on earth do I disconnect the mirror wiring!? I also had a go at reinforcing the top mounting for the interior pull handle. it was flexing a lot when I pulled the door shut! After taking the door card off it became very apparent why...

I made up a 'load spreader' from some steel plate that I cut to size and then folded over one edge to increase the stiffness. A quick coat of etch primer later and it was ready to fit. The door now shuts very solidy and I don't feel like the handle is about to come off in my hand anymore. [:D]

[/quote] You can do it by just removing the "flag" bit the gasket can then be fitted over the base so no need to disconect the wires... it is a PITA as the gaskets are quite stiff .....my drivers side took 1 min...passenger side 1hr

Drilled out and Helicoiled the upper balance shaft cover to fix the leaky turbo banjo connection. Pressure washed the engine/underside and took it for a spirited drive. Year old oil leak fixed! It can finally visit a track, very pleased, so pleased I even mowed the lawn.

I still can't get over how good those wheels look in black, Edd. [8D]

Thank Ken. I tried that today and got both sides done. It's easy once you know how. The old drivers side was a bit tired, but the passenger one was split on the top edge and was letting water in. [&:] I also fixed the central locking on the passenger side. This was a remarkably simple fix because all that had happened was that a clip and detached itself from the lock. To test the latest changes (seals, electric windows, door handle and central locking) I went exploring around this part Liverpool to find some decent country lanes. I found one and gave the car a damn good thrashing! I can confirm that, with the roof out and the windows down, the car is driving better than ever. [:D]

Nearly finished a "get ready for summer" polish (just a door and the roof left to do) and been applying Permanon Platinum paint sealant. WOW! The car looks like it is made of shiny plastic its so glossy. Waiting for my eraser wheel to arrive to finish off the balls up I made of removing the stone guard, then off to my mate's unit for a smart repair on the bit of paint that lifted during the botched job, grrr. Will also get him to dot in a few stonechips and the like too.

Nice wheels Al, fitted the TPS switch ............car now running sweet cheers Al, sorted any dodgy looking hose clips whilst i was in there and also fitted a new thermo sensor, fired her up and have bled the system, Hopefully ! Need to retrieve the 7mm spanner i dropped now sitting on the undertray, couple of other jobs to do to get ready for road tax next week. Black car still in hibernation until tax time in May.

Just had the phone call from the garage that the replacement turbo, downpipe, manifolds, oil cooler seals, oprv, flush, coolant and oil change are all done. [:D] Promised it's running sweet and is a different car! Will feedback if it is after I collect this afternoon!
