TiAL Wastegate group buy

I'll be fitting mine myself. I've had the old one off about three times whilst I got the shimming right, and I replaced all the rusty bolts with new ones after the first time so it should come off no bother. I reckon 30 mins tops [:D] (once the car is jacked up). Or am I cockily setting myself up for a fall now?

I did suspect they would debit the credit card straightaway, it is less risk for them as they have to order 10+ wastegates, and there is the risk we 'purchasers' suddenly change our minds. The only problem arises if it suddenly gets delayed by the manufacturer and we have to wait two months for our goods. Luckily for me my credit card cutoff was on Friday so I won't be paying the bill for 6 weels anyway.

How about a step by step to removing, tools etc. Mind will hopefully come off pteryy easy as its been off twice now already, the shims and exhaust. Unfortunatly it wasnt me but the garage that did it.

Is it easy enought on axle stands, last time i was under the car it was above my head on a ramp and everything looks easy when you have a ramp to lift your car!!

Just got an email from Tim saying "hopefully we will get our order in next week". Mmmm sounds slightly hit or miss to me.

We might be in for a bit of a wait.

BTW how much did everyone pay for theres. I check my statement last night and it was £210. Slighly more than i expected to be honest. Thought it might be around £195

I wouldn't worry about the £15, just hope the HM Customs ignor your package.

I hope this isn't going to end up as a Danno story or we may not see our wastegates this side of Christmas.

Fitting (christmas) party back on?
The dollar got a bit stronger at the end of last week so that wouldn't have helped - still a good price though even at £210.

[His J tube must be forged out of pure Unobtainium the amount of time it seems to be taking.

Titanium with a gold leaf coating (like the McLaren F1 engine bay), I hope.

Turns out you weren't quiet after all - I missed that you said earlier you were in. That's 100% uptake from the hardcore boostie contingent

Try here for a controller link.

I'm still trying to decide wether to go for a Manual Boost Controller or not and have now read the thread on Rennlist. Thanks for the link Fen but, having been through it all, I think my head might explode.

By the way, it was nice to get a mention regarding the CV removal diagram. Thanks for that.

Any way, In summary it would seem that the Reliaboost in single port mode will give a faster spool up, but the MBC in dual port will give a slower spool but more control.

Having been caught out a few times by the snap spool up of the Reliaboost, and not keen on leaving one of the TiAL ports open to the elements, I'm erring towards the MBC.

Last friday evening it took me 2 hours to refit the original one on a friend's car, lying on gravels at the back of his garden. Still have red spots on my back []
The only pain with fitting it was the two upper screws that holds the WG bracket onto the collar round the torque tube. There is very little room in there and had I not long skinny hands I don't think I would have done it in only two hours. After screwing those two bolts it is difficult to tighten them as there is virtually no room for a tool. I used an "angle" tool (sorry, I don't know the word in English) that allowed to tighten them more or less.

How did you manage it in only 30 min, Paul ?

Those two 13mm bolts up there are the problem ones. I used the pictorial guide on the Lyndsey Racing website http://www.lindseyracing.com/wginstal.htm and it specifically mentions those two bolts. The first time I took it off took me over 5 hours, but this included two trips to the local Halfords to buy first a universal 'swivel' socket, and then two extension bars for my small 1/4" socket set....... oh and lots of WD40

With these two tools those bolts are easy. You don't even need to remove the undertray. 30 mins tops it's only 9 bolts to undo (if you have nice new nuts and the swivelly tools [;)] )

Paul are you talking about a universal joint for a socket? Unfortunatly i onl have a 1/2" uj i will need to get hold of a 3/8" & 1/4" to be on the safe side. I have a tin of plus gas, but my wastegate was off last month so hopefully should be straightforward, famous last words....

Heres hoping the adaptor plate are perfect fit.

I am thinking of poping a smal length of tube to the top (open) vent just to make sure no water or dirt gets into it. Prob just lead the pipe back into the engine compartment and cable tie it.

Your best bet is to run the pipe up then turn the end of the pipe downwards, like a walking stick, that way nothing can drop into it and water can't get up inside it. Landrover use such breather pipes all over the place, and they know a thing or two about crud ingress.

£211.59 so you are better off than me :)

Tim.

I'm going for a run out tomorrow with a friend of mine who has an Elise (awesome handling pity about the power) one of our stops will be Specialist Cars at Malton, they do the servicing on my car so I'm going to ask for a fixed price for changing the wastegate. I could probably do it myself but I'd have to pi$$ about buying bits and pieces so i'd rather pay someone to do it right first time.

Tim.

(just call me the wastegate wimp :)

SFR wont even take delivery till the end of this week, so i recon it will be end on next week at earliest.

I have posted on Rennlist to see whats happening, and emailed SFR so will get a mail back later today hopefully. I was hoping it might be end of th is week but end of next week more likley.

The tial will be able to hold boost right up to the redline, so should be able to discover an extra 30 or so bhp..plus slightly better pickup. Thats the theory anyway!!
