TiAL Wastegate group buy

Latest from SFR, they are still waiting for Tial to send them. They said next week, but take that with a pinch of salt. American service industry might be good but they are slow as a week in the jail!!!

So looks like atleast 2 weeks till we get them. To be honest if i dont have it by 28th then i will be cancelling my order. They really should have informed Tial and made sure that they could supply. I mean how hard can it be to build 10-15 wastegates!! Not happy!!

Just got mine, Fedex delivered it a few mins ago.

Boy does it look nice, what a shame to mount it where nobody can see it.

No customs charges either but that could come later.

Tim.

Nice one, so hopefully mine is not too far away, getting it deliverd to work, so knowing my luck will have to pay charges and it will casue all knids of problems. Need to find a job code i can put it down to.. [;)]

Get it fitted tonight then and give us a step by step guide including pics.

Just woke up and I've got a collection slip from Fedex [:D][:D][:D]

I can't collect it from their depot until 5:30 though[]

Guess I'll have a TiAL fitted by 6:30 [;)] watch this space

Well you hassled Timbo so you've gone to the bottom of the list [:D][:D][:D]

Just popped round to the local Fedex depot on the offchance that their van was back. No luck, maybe I should cruise round Northants and stop every van I see [;)]

Got all my tools laid out in the garage, wastegate freshly soaked in WD40..........not that I'm impatient or anything

Nope, you get stung with delivery I think. I got a card today from ParcelForce trying to deliver my clutch etc. from Lindsey. I'm being hit for £81, which isn't too bad IMO.

I look forward to hearing how much difference they make.

Well I wasn't allowed to play until I'd finished my tea [] so I didn't get started until 6:45

All finished by 8:45 and I've been out playing [8D]

Straight away I was overboosting, my gauge maxes out at 20psi and it was pegged there and I heard the telltale sounds of detonation. Pulled over and turned the Reliaboost down 3 full turns and had another go. It was now hitting 17psi, so stopped again and another two turns off the controller has me hitting just under 15psi [:D] about 14.7

In 3rd gear it holds this until 5000rpm then drops off to 13psi

In 4th it holds until 5500 then drops off to 14psi

I was hoping it would hold full boost until the redline, but I am hoping with some more minor adjustment tomorrow I can peg it at exactly 15 psi and maybe it will hold just a little bit longer. Or am I now about to regret only getting a 0.8 bar spring [:(]

Installation pics to follow

First of all I didn't get stung for any import or customs either so my total bill was £205 - very happy [:D]

The wastegate itself looks incredibly well made, and is jolly shiny (wonder how long that will last [&:])

The Speedforceracing adaptor plates look very chunky and substantial and the bolts that come with them seem good quality. One thing to note is that the adaptor plates are only loosely bolted on so make sure they are nice and tight before installing. Also remove the eight mounting bolts before tightening the plates to the wastegate as they interfere if left in place. All the bolts need a 6mm allen key socket

The wastegate comes with two banjo bolts, one for the side port and one for the top. Look closely at the banjo before installing because you have to align it correctly or no air can get through. This is difficult to explain, but when you see it you will know what I mean. I marked my banjo bolt with two black marks showing where the hole lines up (See pic below). I purposely misaligned the top bango bolt so that no muck can get into the top chamber. John was a bit worried about this, but this seems a neat solution [:)]

Before installing to the car I attached a line to the side port and a foot pump to see at what pressure the valve opens. Using this highly inaccurate method the valve opened at 12 psi (I have the 0.8bar spring)

This pic shows the valve closed and open, note the difference to the standard wastegate in that it opens inwards and can't be forced open by exhaust pressure alone.

Isn't the top chamber supposed to be open to atmoshpere? I'm not saying it is, but I wonder if it is.

Edited by Paul You might be right, I think I will contact Tim at SFR to be sure, but the valve does still open ok

My cruddy old wastegate with many shims came out very easily (pic below) because I've had it out a couple of times before and used new bolts covered in copperslip when reinstalled.

The TiAL did not slot straight into place. I had to loosen a few more bits and pieces to get it into place because it is a little bigger. One was the upper bracket for the old wastegate that is on the torque tube (this is not used by the TiAL), I just loosened it and slid it towards the rear of the car.

The other was the exhaust pipe that leads to the cat, or silencer if you have no cat. With this loosened it could swivel out the way so I could get the TiAL in place. At first it seems that one of the SFR adaptor plates is 2mm too thick, but with all of the 8 bolts loosely in place I gradually tightened them and it all lined up ok - phew [&:]

.....and here it is all bolted into place and with the side port connected to my Reliaboost line.

That copper coloured bracket in the top left corner is the old support bracket on the torque tube that I slid towards the rear of the car

I'm off for a beer now [8D]

Strewth, Mr Sweetenham, welcome to the forum. We'll have to stop talking about you on it now [;)]

My wastegate still hasn't arrived. Shame there isn't an English source of DPW's. LMARO. :ROFLMAO:

Whilst lying under the car (having a rest from fighting with rusty nuts on shock absorbers) I had a look at my wastegate and coated all the nuts and bolts with half a can of WD40, as I was there. I have come to the conclusion that running three vac lines into the car to allow in car adjustable boost may be more of a fag then I can be bothered with so I might go back to the open top port and Reliaboost option.

Hmm I was about to stick mine on Ebay, or offer it to Titanic because a few people over the years have damaged their wastegate and asked if anyone had a spare?

As it's you Andrew I think I could trade mine for a nice DV30 dump valve and a set of your vacuum pipes (both in black coz I'm boring [:D] ). The core is intact and the studs are all there undamaged.

What are they new from Porsche about £1200 or something...

Mmmmm who will open the bidding for a nice second hand one in perfect condition..

Paul do you recon the DV30 is worth getting?
